Strategic Target 3.1. Activating and Generalizing Services Intended for Disadvantaged Groups Strategic Target 3.5. Reinforcing Cooperation with Shareholders, Volunteers in terms of Social Support Services

A significant part of the services aimed at elderly people are provided in Kayışdağı Darülaceze Campus which is Turkey’s largest nursing home rendering service with an area of 151,000 m2. Akseki Ormanalı Abdullah-Nerime Turan Nursing Home/Life House for Artists, Dr. Beşir Akınal Nursing Home and Life Houses are other institutions that render service to the elderly people. Numeric data for the elderly are shown in Table 2.

Kayışdağı Darülaceze (Asylum or Home for Elderlies) Campus

Darülaceze (Asylum or Home for Elderlies) Campus that provides service for the elderly, mentally disabled and psychotic diagnosed people to maintain their lives in a healthy and peaceful way consists of Çınar, Umut, Dolunay, Papatya, Güven, Sevgi, Huzur, Zümrüt Building Complexes and a guesthouse. The elderly people who reside in different building complexes in accordance with their genders permanently or for a limited time period are provided with services to meet sheltering, nutrition, clothing, health, training and social needs.

Furthermore, many projects are conducted with the aim of improving their life qualities.

Adaptation to Social Life Project: The project which was prepared based on the fact that human being is a social entity consists of internal and external socialization activities with the aim of ensuring unconditioned satisfaction of its residents and raising their life standards.

• Internal Socialization Activities: Activities such as birthdays, picnics, building complex executive board election, trips are organized for the residents.

• External Socialization Activities: In order to ensure that the residents can continue their social and cultural activities prior to joining the institution and socialize by participating in the social life outside the institution; external trips and celebrations are organized with the support of Darülaceze Volunteers.

Darülaceze Fellow sub-project was established in connection with this project.

Darülaceze (Asylum or Home for Elderlies) Fellowship and Voluntarism Project: Anyone who volunteers in scope of the project can visit our institution and communicate with the residents and carry out activities in order to ensure the adaptation of the residents to social life. Particularly Yeditepe, Sabancı and Marmara Universities as well as student groups from high schools visit the institution in certain days of the week to communicate with the residents and ensure that the residents participate in social life changes and amendments in the living areas of the residents are carried out. In Faith and Love sites of our Organization; our sites are made safer and more usable by means of furniture corner protection, automatic closing plug protector, side-sink handicapped handle, toilet safety support, height control bathroom chair, wall-mounted shower stool, and nonslip surface band.

Support for the Elderly at Home: Considering the high organizational care costs, activities are implemented towards supporting care of the elderly at their own house or at the houses of their relatives without taking out them from their home environment.

Elderly Consultancy Line Project: An information repository has been created and phone consultancy service is rendered for ensuring access of people to the organizations that provide service in the fields for the elderly or social services.

Active Elderliness Project: It is targeted to improve the life quality of the residents and reduce the problems that emerge from ageing and elderliness by regular exercising and training.

As of 2013, 324 residents participate in exercising activities on a regular basis.

Ergotherapy Activities also continues in 2013 with active participation of our residents. As of 2013, 135 residents participated in ergotherapy activities on a regular basis.

Spiritual Care Project: Keeping in mind that spiritual training of the residents is at least as important as the others, weekly meetings are held by officials sent by the office of mufti with the help of Provincial Office of Mufti and religious and moral issues are addressed. 174 programs were organized in scope of the project in 2013.

Social Care Project: “Social Care Project” that is based on care services is carried out by institutional sociologist. The project is significant in terms of focusing to the individual is of importance in terms of creating the awareness that each resident is different from the others in respect to the service to be offered and emphasizing the requirement to be acquainted with the life story, tastes, hobbies and habits such as eating and sleeping of each resident accordingly. Therefore, social care plans were created in collaboration with concerned specialists (sociologists, psychologists, dieticians, health personnel, care-takers and doctors, etc.). Social care plan includes communication, engagement, daily activities, social life, spiritual care, health status, nutrition, toilet needs, movement, resting and sleep were arranged for each resident. Conditional analysis was conducted individually for each resident through this activity, and the needs were determined and required recommendations for service were made.

Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Services: Programs are implemented by physiotherapy and rehabilitation center aimed at functional capacity improvement, contracture risk reducement in elderly people and prevention of immobilization-related complications of the residents.

Akseki Ormanalı Abdullah-Nerime Turan Nursing Home/Artists’ Life House

Akseki Ormanalı Abdullah-Nerime Turan Nursing Home/Artists’ Life House built by Nerime Turan, wife of Abdullah Turan who is a charitable citizen on the will of Abdullah and which is currently used by İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality was renovated significantly and it was made ready to provide service as Akseki Ormanalı Abdullah-Nerime Turan Nursing Home/Artists’ Life House.

The center which rendered service as nursing house since 2006 was transformed into a residential home for the widely esteemed artists after the renovation. The nursing house renders service at Yakacık area with a total area of 7,000 square meters - 3.200 square meter of close and 3,800 square meter of open area.

The place that has a view of 4 districts of Istanbul (Adalar, Pendik, Kartal, Maltepe) and which is expressed as the balcony of Istanbul has an ideal location for this service with its natural environment and sea scenery. The center consisting of 3 floors has a total of 44 rooms – 32 double rooms, 11 single rooms and 1 suite room. Services are rendered at the center with a capcity for 76 people.

Akseki Ormanalı Abdullah-Nerime Turan Nursing Home/Artists’ Life House was put into service in 21 December 2011. It provides 14 residents as of the end of December 2013.

Dr. Beşir Akınal Nursing Home

The former residents of Akseki Ormanalı Abdullah Nerime Turan Nursing Home which was converted into Artists’ Life House are hosted in Dr. Beşir Akınel Nursing Home which was assigned to Metropolitan Municipality with the protocol concluded with Nesil Foundation. The nursing home with a residents with the suitable profiles with sustaining their lives without leaving their social environments. In these units, their rehabilitation is ensured by;

• Providing happy and peaceful remaining life for the residents,

• Preparing the opportunity to do their jobs for those who can work, and

• Occupying them with the natural motivation resources of life.

In the scope of this project that is first and unique in Turkey, 43 residents are rendered services at 28 living houses by the end of December 2013 (a total of 57 residents during 2013). In line with the demands, activities are ongoing for new living houses.

Child Assembly

Established in 2005 based on a participatory understanding so as to ensure that the children state their problems and demands, and take active role in finding ways of resolution, the Child Assembly consists of 301 members and 21 commissions.

Youth Assembly

Established on 19 May 2005 for our youngsters to participate in programs and activities regarding their development in personal, social, political, scientific, cultural, sportive and communicative issues and to ensure that they have a voice, the Youth Assembly consists of 301 members and 16 commissions in representation of all of the districts and villages of Istanbul.

With the purpose of ensuring active participation of the members of Youth Assembly in management actively, national and international events and activities are organized.

Vocational Services for the Youth (İSMEM)

Istanbul Municipality Profession Acquisition Center for the Youth (ISMEM) is a unit established with the aim of minimizing the street child issue of Istanbul. The unit renders service to male children from those who turned 14 to those who have not passed 25, live on the street or has the risk of doing so. With the aim of reintroducing this group of children into the society and acquiring individuals who contribute in the society they live in from consuming individuals; the care, basic training, vocational training and social rehabilitation of these youngsters are provided by expert teams.

Youngsters who live on the streets that have no substance addiction or decided to quit, accept to reside in the institution continuously and qualified to continue education and receive occupational training are accepted to the institution. Trainings

NUMBER OF SCOUTS ATTENDING AT SCOUTING CAMPS on carpentry, barbering, gardening, plumbery, mechanics,

automation, electronics, electricity, tailoring, construction, embroidery, cartonpierre, cookery, computer accounting, butchery subjects are given in the institution where rehabilitation through occupational training is addressed. In addition to this, the trainings are updated, altered or renewed with the light of market analyses. Simultaneously, the teenagers are given the opportunity of completing basic education through Open High School education.

Besides occupational trainings, sports activities (swimming, football, basketball, volleyball), social activities (concerts, theaters, movies), cultural activities (museums and historical places), which are appreciated as a part of rehabilitation, are organized under the supervision of trainers.

Scouting Activities

Various theoretical and practical trainings which include required effort, training and activities to contribute in the mental, physical, artistic, cultural, social and spiritual developments of children aged between 09-15, raise nature and history awareness and improve their creative skills have been delivered in collaboration with Directorate of Scouting and Guiding Federation of Turkey since 2014.

49 children and youngsters have received service in ISMEM life campus with 100 bed capacity as of the end of December 2013.

Support Services Towards Children and Youngsters (IGEM)

İstanbul Youth Training and Counselling Center, commissioned in collaboration of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Sultanbeyli Municipality in scope of EU Project so as to support resolving the economic and social problems of Istanbul, Izmir, Ankara and Bursa as significant immigration-cities, has continued to render service under Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality as of 2010 June.

M The purpose of the center is to create equal opportunities in education and social activities to the children of families with poor socioeconomic status in Sultanbeyli and increase their rate of merging into the society by minimizing the duration spent on the streets. As of the end of December 2012, 131 children, teenagers and their families have benefitted from the services of the center.

Horse riding, canoe and rowing, basic scouting, search &

rescue, climbing wall, swimming, environment-forest, art, music, cycling, first aid, badminton, personal development, transmitter and communication, traffic, theater, pentathlon, fishing and fire brigade trainings are delivered at the scout camp.

Belnet - Internet and Information Access Centers Belnet - Internet and Information Access Centers which commenced offering service in 2007 are technology centers which offer all of Istanbul citizens free, filtered, safe and comfortable information, technology and internet facilities

Internet and Information Access Centers render information and internet services 7 days a week with 64 branches in 28 districts of Istanbul and 1.343 computers and 144 staff.

Bel-Net İnternet Evleri, 2013

Young Career Days are personal development trainings given to university students in order to improve their status of preparedness and contribute in their employment opportunities following graduation since 2004. In collaboration with Aydın University, students from 4 overseas universities, 67 universities out of Istanbul and 39 universities in Istanbul received these services. 1,120 students were awarded with certificates of achievement in 2013.

Agenda titles of Career Days are; Music and Human Psychology, Human Recognition, Ability Management, Interview Techniques, Social Media, Current Issues in Turkish Foreign Policy, Labor Law, Innovative Approaches.

Young White Trips

“Young White Trips” are promotion, culture and information tours organised with the participation of student groups from 44 universities in Istanbul, 64 Belnet branch members and parents, IMM Child Assembly and IMM Youth Assembly Members. Istanbul Police Department organized a visit to historical and touristic places of Istanbul for 540 students with 6 groups consisting of primary schools students in coordination with Istanbul Branch Office of International Police Association (IPA).

Preference Tents, 2013

67,370 university candidate students around Istanbul were provided with University Preference and Consultancy Service in a total of 19 districts 21 squares and 94 Preference Consultancy Center. Additionally, counselling service by phone was provided by an expert from each organization this year for the first time on the dates when the Preference Consultancy Center was active by establishing a Preference Line.

2013 Morale and Motivation Festival

2013 festival that was organized as morale and motivation festival before the university exam was held ın 27 May 2013 with attendance of approximately 5000 people at Harbiye Cemil Topuzlu Open Air Theater with Mustafa CECELİ on the stage.

Smart Course

In the scope of the project created in 2008 in coordination with Kültür Course, everybody that will enter university and high school exams and that wants to study for the exam in a systematic way is provided with the first online free course services in a simple, understandable and practical way.

Preference Consultancy Tents

Free preference consultancy is provided to the students on computer environment following YGS and LYS examinations

In scope of the project “Municipality Appreciation Awards”

project, the students showing success in their schools were awarded gift packages consisting of footballs, volleyballs as well as mind developing games (sudoku) and 100 Fundamental Novels in order to encourage children to study and make them successful. At the end of the second semester in 2012-2013 education year, 4,681 successful students were awarded with gift packages.

People with disabilities and their families are informed of their legal rights. It is targeted to eliminate the difficulties they encounter in public/private institutions, collaborate with organizations that offer service to people with disabilities and ensure these make the best use of their disability rights.
