Describing Characters / People
“What does ... look like? (... dış görünüş olarak nasıl biridir?)” sorusunu kişinin dış görünüşü- nü ve fiziksel özelliklerini sormak için kullanırız. Cevabı ise “She / He is cute, handsome, well-built, plump etc.” şeklinde verebiliriz.
“What is .... like? (... nasıl biridir?)” sorusunu kişinin karakterini ve kişilik özelliklerini öğren- mek için kullanırız. Bu soruya karşılık olarak “She / He is honest, outgoing, smart, stubborn etc.” şeklinde cevap verebiliriz.
“Have got - has got (sahip olmak)” yapısı sahip olduğumuz şeyleri ifade ederken ve birinin fiziksel özelliklerini ifade ederken kullanırız.
Olumsuz yaparken “haven’t / hasn’t” şeklinde kullanırız, soru yaparken de “have / has” yapısı- nı başa getiririz.
Examples:
➦ Jack has got curly hair and blue eyes. (Jack’in kıvırcık saçları ve mavi gözleri var.)
➦ Mary and her sister have got straight black hair. (Mary ve kız kardeşinin düz siyah saçları var.)
➦ Have you got hazel eyes? (Ela gözlerin var mı?)
Comparative Adjectives: İki kişi veya şey arasında karşılaştırma yaparken kullanılır ve sıfat- tan sonra “than” getirilir.Sıfatların hece sayısına ve yapısına göre kullanım şekilleri değişir.
Tek heceli sıfatların sonlarına “-er” eki eklenir.
Examples:
smart (zeki) → smarter (daha zeki) tall (uzun) → taller (daha uzun)
“-y” ile biten tek heceli sıfatlarda “-y” düşer “-ier” eklenir.
Examples:
ugly (çirkin) → uglier (daha çirkin) happy (mutlu) → happier (daha mutlu)
Sessiz + sesli + sessiz harf ile biten tek heceli sıfatlarda, sondaki sessiz harf tekrarlanır.
Examples:
slim (zayıf) → slimmer (daha zayıf) fat (şişman) → fatter (daha şişman)
İki veya daha fazla heceli sıfatların önüne “more” getirilir.
Examples:
attractive (çekici) → more attractive (daha çekici) honest (dürüst) → more honest (daha dürüst)
Bazı sıfatlar düzensizdir.
Examples:
good → better bad → worse much / many → more little → less far → farther / further
Bir şeyin sebebini bildirmek için “because” (çünkü/için) ifadesi kullanılır.
