Conclusões gerais

Este trabalho é o primeiro a caracterizar os principais centros circadianos do mocó, um roedor típico da região Nordeste do Brasil. Os resultados descrevem o padrão da projeção retiniana sobre o núcleo supraquiasmático e o folheto intergeniculado, bem como a caracterização neuroquímica destes centros. Este trabalho representa um instrumento essencial para estabelecer o mocó como modelo regional para pesquisas envolvendo sistema nervoso. Além disso, os resultados discutidos aqui oferecem uma possibilidade de compreender os aspectos filogenéticos, em roedores, do sistema de temporização circadiana. A partir da análise dos resultados, nenhuma relação aparente foi encontrada entre o padrão da projeção retiniana ou conteúdo neuroquímico com a alocação temporal das espécies estudadas. Assim, assumindo que existe uma relação direta entre estrutura e função, as

64 diferenças entre animais diurnos e noturnos permanecem obscuras. Outros trabalhos devem ser realizados no sentido de esclarecer o verdadeiro papel da organização anatômica no controle dos ritmos biológicos.
