ESC Editors Network consensus report and new studies

Özlek and a team from Turkey evaluated data on gender differences in the clinical features and management of heart failure with midrange ejection fraction and heart failure with pre-served ejection fraction patients who participated in the APOLLON study (A comPrehensive, ObservationaL registry of heart faiLure with mid-range and preserved ejectiON fraction). The design of the study was described in our journal in 2018. These data will contribute to the lit-erature on this very important issue.

Bozbeyoğlu et al., from Turkey, investigated the relationship between inferior ST-T changes in anterior myocardial infarction and the presence of a wrap-around left anterior descending artery (LAD). They indicated that a wrap-around LAD cannot be reliably diagnosed based on the results of an electrocardiogram. In addition, Dr. Kobayashi and Dr. Maehara kindly wrote an editorial about this study.

Luo et al., from China, demonstrated the protective effect of metformin on cardiomyocytes, which might be at least partly attributable to upregulation of STEAP4 (STEAP4 metalloreduc-tase). Therefore, STEAP4 might be a new target to decrease apoptosis and rescue mitochon-drial function in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury.

Yetiş Sayın et al., from Turkey, presented analysis of data from the GARFIELD-AF Regis-try (Global Anticoagulant RegisRegis-try in the FIELD-Atrial Fibrillation) about therapeutic strategies, best practices, and clinical outcomes, as well as deficiencies in available treatment options and patient care. These data are worth considering.

Furthermore, we are participating in a joint simultaneous publication initiative of interested national and affiliated cardiovascular journals of the European Society of Cardiology. “Author-ship: From Credit to Accountability. Reflections From the Editors’ Network” is a consensus report that will be helpful to everyone involved in writing a paper.

And of course, this issue also includes new interesting case reports and e-page originals. I hope the readers will find this issue of the journal useful.
