• A common medical reason for rhinoplasty is difficulty breathing through the nose. Nasal obstruction can cause problems with exercise, disturb sleep, contribute to snoring and sleep apnea, or interfere with other activities. In such a case the patient cannot get enough air through the nose which might lead to fatigue. The patient’s sleep quality might be very low and s/he may wake up tired. Some sleep disorders are
related to difficulty of breathing and once the problem with breathing is solves, the patient sleeps well. In severe cases patient’s life quality is effected to a considerable degree. If medical treatments (such as nasal spray or sleep apnea
treatment) fail, surgery may be the next step.

• Nasal surgery is tailored to the underlying problem. If the septum –– the midline wall of cartilage that divides the right and left sides of the nose –– is deviated, then a
septoplasty alone may fix the problem. However, when a septal deviation is more severe, or occurs nears certain critical areas of nasal support, a rhinoplasty is required to ensure proper breathing and nasal shape. Rhinoplasty
(also called septorhinoplasty) addresses the septal
deformity and strengthens key breathing areas of the nose with strategically placed cartilage grafts.

• While no one is using apple cider vinegar as an antibiotic today, it has been touted more recently for weight loss. Studies in obese rats and mice suggest that acetic acid can prevent fat deposition and
improve their metabolism. The most widely quoted study of humans is a 2009 trial of 175 people who consumed a drink containing 0, 1, or 2 tablespoons of vinegar each day. After three months, those who consumed vinegar had modest weight loss (2 to 4 pounds) and
lower triglyceride levels than those who drank no vinegar. Another small study found that vinegar consumption promoted feeling fuller after eating, but that it did so by causing nausea. Neither of these studies specifically studied apple cider vinegar. Consequently,
consuming apple cider vinegar for weight loss is only an urban legend.

• The foods that give your body beneficial probiotics are those
fermented using natural processes and containing probiotics. Live cultures are found in not only yogurt and a yogurt-like drink called kefir, but also in Korean pickled vegetables called kimchi, sauerkraut, and in some pickles. The jars of pickles you can buy off the shelf at the supermarket are sometimes pickled using vinegar and not the natural fermentation process using live organisms, which means they don’t contain probiotics. To ensure the fermented foods you choose do contain probiotics, look for the words “naturally
fermented” on the label, and when you open the jar look for telltale bubbles in the liquid, which signal that live organisms are inside the jar. If you observe these signs, you can safely consume those
beneficial probiotics.

• The rehabilitation process after rhinoplasty is not difficult but you should prepare yourself for it. You should expect to take one week off from work or school. During that time rest, ice, and a regimen of nasal cleaning is recommended. While pain medications are provided, most people only require them for a few days. During recovery, it is difficult to easily breathe through the nose because splints (bendable, thin plastic sheets) are placed inside the nose to keep the septum straight. Swelling peaks on the third day, and
then decreases. Bruising under the eyes can sometimes occur.
During the week after surgery, you’ll wear a small cast on your nose to protect it and reduce swelling. Hence, you should spare the week after the surgery for beter taking care of yourself.
