INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON THE 90th ANNIVERSARY OF THE LAUSANNE PEACE TREATY AND THE REPUBLIC OF TURKEY:
CALL FOR PAPERS
We are delighted to announce the international symposium entitled Studies of Republican History I – the 90th Anniversary the Lausanne Peace Treaty and the Republic of Turkey, which will be held on the November 13-15th, 2013 in cooperation with Atatürk Research Center and The Atatürk Institute for Modern Turkish History, Hacettepe University.
Because the year 2013 is the 90th anniversary of the Lausanne Treaty and establishment of the Republic, an international symposium has been organized in order to evaluate these two significant milestones of our history in common.
The Lausanne Treaty is the international recognition of the new Turkish state.
The Republic was established three months after the treaty was signed. This fact requires an evaluation of both these historical events within the framework of a symposium. That the Republic has been exposed to both the changes in her immediate neighborhood as well as the ones in the world and the transitions and improvements within herself in the course of 90 years since her establishment makes it essential to review this period as a whole considering the establishment principles of the Republic. For this reason, it would be more convenient to propose symposium papers and the discussions relying on the text of the Lausanne Treaty.
It has been planned that papers taking place at the first part of the symposium would deal with the articles of the treaty, their negotiation period, international conjuncture and the attitudes of the relevant parties. On the other side, the second part should contain issues concerning the text of the treaty which have progressively changed so far, remained up-to-date and controversies.
Therefore, the text of the Lausanne Treaty would be examined profoundly and the changes, developments as well as problems in the course of time will be included and finally it would be possible to observe the progress that has been made since the foundation of the Republic.
We hope that the symposium relied on the text of the Lausanne Treaty would promote the scholars and researchers of the relevant field to establish contacts with each other as well as to produce new knowledge and shedding light to the history of the recent era of our country. This would only be possible through the contribution and participation of the esteemed scholars.
It is expected that the papers would introduce results of recent research and provide new perspectives to knowledge production. Paper proposals should include a minimum of 400 words. Proposals are expected to be arranged in a manner including possible outcomes by taking their subjects, scopes and current position as an ongoing research into account.
Titles planned for the symposium are given as follows. However, the subjects of the symposium papers are not limited to these. Various subjects might also be proposed on condition that they stick to the general framework of the symposium.
Travel and accommodation expenses of the participants who will present their papers will be covered by our presidency and Hacettepe University.
We would welcome your participation in the symposium.
Kind regards.
