GIS APPLİCATİON İN THE
DEFİNİTİON OF RADİATİON
AND HEAVY METAL

2
Seyitömer thermic powerhouse is located at 28 km northwest of Kütahya city in
3
Thermic powerhouse properties
• 150 MW powerhouses each one integrated with Seyitömer lignite enterprise’s passed to activity in 1973,1974,1977 and 1989 years.
• Formed from 4 unit ;and has got
total 600 MW powered energy production capacity
4
Thermic powerhouse affect to
environment
• Living people becomes uncomfortable by powerhouse’s dust and ash (Celine et
al.,2006)
• Flying sized ash and dust affects agricultural areas.
(Felipe et al.,1999,Ünlü et al., 1998)
By results of affects; authorities attached chimney filters to powerhouse
5
Purpose
• İf there is a pollution around thermic power house this would be settled
• Heavy metal pollutions would be investigated • Radioactive pollutions would be investigated
6
Samples
• 39 different coordinates settled
• 64 soil samples taken,54 rock samples taken ,34 plant samples taken;totally 152 samples collected around thermic
7
Expirements
• All of the samples grinded and crushed to 0,1 micron size 32 mm diameter sized pellets are prepared and analysed with Spectro X-LAB 2000 PED XRF spectrometer
• Soil and rock samples are crushed and 20 micron sized particles are sieved.20 micron
sized soils are sticked by paraffin oil over 1cm diameter sized aluminium discs.
8
Radioactive pollution measurement
• Handecount alpha and beta scintillation counter used to measure alpha and beta activity of samples.
9
Alpha counts efficiency
-Tray height is settled to probable highest range and air
gap which will be passed by alpha radiation tryed to make minimum for higy efficiency alpha counting.
-Samples are also sieved to 20 micron size to obtain thin sample layer for measuring alpha counts with high
10
Beta correction
• 10 mg KCl consists of 5,244 mg natural potassium.
• We know 1 gr natural potassium’s beta activity is 750 pCi(Gaylord 2005)
• From this point 10-20-30-40-50 mg KCl prepared and activities measured with handecount device.
11
12
We found a corrective equation for
beta results
0,01gr KCl = 4,627pCi
Theoretical result
0,01gr KCl = 4, 73pCi

• GIS:To solve complicated planning directing
problems; datas where their places determined ,
including,modelling and operations with producing
images and involves hardware, software and methods system.(Geographic information systems)
• Multivariate:Multivariate statistics or multivariate analysis ; means more then one observations and analyzes which involves more then one statistical variables at the same time. Multivariate analysis most suitable summary is data tables which have more variables to provide a lot of
knowledge with a few variable. These new variables uses with classification ,association, control maps, etc.. to
show and solve the problems.
