M. EDENS* The "Erken Prelıistorya ae Klileya Bazalt Alanlan Prğesi" , or "EPKİBAY' , is an archaeological slrrvey directed by Dr. Bakiye Ytıkmen Edens.l The

sur-vey is focused on finding and contextualizing early prehistoric sites on each side of the Amanos mountains, in the Karasu valley (Hatay) to the east, and

in eastern

Cilicia

(Adana and osmaniye) to the

west.

To circumvent

geo-moıphological difficulties, *te sufvey focuses on and around Pleistocene

ba-salt landscapes in these two areas. In the 2016 and 2017 seasons, the survey identified Palaeolithic, Epipalaeoiiüic and Aceramic Neolithic chipped stone, as well as _{later prehistoric through medieval finds}

press a, in press b). This discussion considers chipped stone and related finds belonging to late prehistoric (Pottery _{Neolithic thıough}_Early_{Bronze Age)}

periods.

The focus of the present discussion is the west side of the Botaş basatt

hil|

near the Gulf of Iskenderun in southeastem Ceyhan (Figure: 1). This dome

of basalt emerged toward the end of the Lower Pleistocene, _{perhaps around}

800ka. The

hill

today rises more than 200m above sea level, in the midst of

rolling hills which are formed on Miocene sedimentary rocks. Facüties of the
