INDIAN TROOPS’ TASK IN
HYDERABAD

According to an announcement from
Southern Command headquarters, Indian
troops are steadily fanning out to different
positions in Hyderabad State to suppress
Razakar activity which continues in some
areas.
Direct railway services have not yet been reopened to Hyderabad and air lines on scheduled routes to the State, which were sus pended some weeks ago, are also awaiting Government orders to resume. Law and order appears to be well maintained in Hyderabad and Secunderabad cities in spite of a few inci dents of spasmodic looting.
All - restrictions imposed by the Nizam’s Government on the use of Indian currency in Hyderabad have been removed by the interim military administration and all sterling transac tions of the former Nizam’s Government have been suspended. Colonel Ghulam Moinuddin, a retired officer of the Hyderabad State army, believed to have been responsible for the mili tary training of the Razakars. has been arrested.
MR. MENON’S ATTACK ON
BRITISH PRESS
Mr. Krishna Menon, High Commissioner for India, returned to London on Monday from a visit to Delhi, and yesterday spoke at a Press conference. In seeking to vindicate the policy of his Government towards Hyderabad, he severely criticized both the presentation of the facts and the comments thereon of the British Press.
He said that the majority of the British correspondents in India and Pakistan had been very poor reporters. He also complained of the B.B.C. presentation of news on the sub ject. With a large file of cuttings before him, he asserted that The Times and many other papers had misinterpreted the position and made false predictions of widespread com munal disturbances. “ It makes the work of peace-makers,” he added, “ extremely difficult in the delicate task we have to perform if responsible organs of public opinion interpret events and forecast things, and then almost wish we had lost the battle of Hyderabad, almost wish we had had communal rioting.”
