Recommendations for students to prefer a university

Along with ÖSYM's announcement of the exam results, the preference period will start. Guidance Specialist Pelin Karahancı advised students to facilitate the preference process.

“THEY SHOULD MAKE IT IN A WIDE RANGE”

Stating that students who will prefer a bachelor's degree must make a choice according to their success order, Guidance Specialist Pelin Karahancı said:

“Students who will choose an associate degree can choose according to their scores as well as to their rankings. Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, changes applied in the YKS 2020 will of course also affect success rankings, so students should make wide- ranging choices within 24 right to prefer. For example, it would be good for a student with 80,000 rank at Equal Weight to choose between 40,000 and 120,000 ranks.”

“ATTENTION TO RANK OF SUCCESS”

Stating that the departments with a success ranking condition should be paid attention, Karahancı said, “It is necessary to pay attention to the updated success rankings of programs such as Medicine, Law, Engineering, Teaching, Pharmacy, Dentistry.”

“DO NOT PREFER THE PLACES YOU DO NOT WANT”

Stating that the decision making process for the university and department that students prefer is important, Guidance Specialist Pelin Karahancı from Istanbul Gelisim University said: “We do not recommend students to choose places they do not want in order not to wait a whole year and to be prepared for the Higher

Education Institutions Examination (YKS) for another year. The university journey is an adventure that will last until the end of the person's life and the identity we carry in this adventure will be associated with the department we graduate. For this reason, we should choose departments that we have been dreaming of since childhood and that are suitable for our talents and personal characteristics.”

“ATTENTION TO SPECIAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS”

Karahancı stated that the list of special terms and conditions for the sections in the ÖSYM (Measuring, Selection and Placement Center) guide has been announced and said: “This is another point we need to pay attention to when choosing. Although these conditions vary from department to department, there are many details such as health condition, physical feature condition, fee condition, preparation condition, scholarship, campus to be educated, so we should read the guide well.”

“STUDENTS SHOULD DEVELOP THEMSELVES”

(3)

Emphasizing that students should prefer universities where they can develop themselves, Istanbul Gelisim University Chairman of the Board of Trustees

Abdulkadir Gayretli spoke: “Considering the number of students who graduate each year, it is inevitable that students should develop themselves while studying. For this, they can participate in projects, get to know different countries with Erasmus, and participate in social responsibility projects with student clubs and start the job better than others in their field.”

“PREFERENCE CONSULTING WILL BE MADE”

Stating that especially the top 5 preferences should be evaluated well by the students in order to benefit from the scholarships of public or foundation universities, Gayretli spoke: “In the preference period, students should contact the universities as much as possible and get information about the opportunities of the universities, and if there is no preference experience, it is definitely beneficial to get support from the experts. As Istanbul Gelisim University, a choice robot and a choice consultancy will be provided to prospective students.”

“Public found the guide at the night of July 15”

Pointed out that the attitude of the people against the coup opened a new era in Turkish politics on July 15, Prof. Dr. Şenol Durgun said: “In such illegitimate

situations of intervention, the public was always hesitant about how to react. In fact, in every coup attempt, the public sought a guide, a voice, that would lead them not to hesitate on how to act, and found its guide at the night of July 15. Their leadership attitude was also admirable.”

Prof. Dr. Şenol Durgun from Istanbul Gelisim University evaluated the July 15

treacherous coup attempt. Durgun said: “It was thought that the passive presence of the people against the forces in the coup attempt will continue exactly as in the coups carried out so far. The relation of the Turkish society with the state and its traditional respect for the state made it not know how to act in such interventions to disrupt the system.” And added: “Because in the ancient Turkish culture, the public was always hesitant about how to behave in such illegitimate situations of intervention, as the rebellion to the state is identified with the insurrection to the father". In fact, in every coup attempt, the public sought a guide, a voice, that would lead them not to hesitate on how to act, and found its guide at the night of July 15.”

“POLITICS, MEDIA, JUDICIARY HAS ACTIVE ROLE”

Stating that the political institutions are the pioneers for the people to be active and more organized in the face of the coup, Prof. Dr. Durgun spoke: “When the coup attempt was heard, the public hesitated for a moment like the previous interventions.

However, that politics, the media and judiciary played an active role or guide people in the process helped the public get rid of the hesitation about how to act and protect their country and the political institution.”

(4)

"LEADERSHIP BEHAVIOR IS RESPECTABLE"

Expressing that the statements made from the opposition front are important in the coup attempt, Prof. Dr. Durgun said: “The role of that the President and the Prime Minister take the control unlike in previous years, and state that they will be in the squares and call the public to go to the squares cannot be ignored. Their leadership behavior on this matter is respectable. The most important contribution belongs to MHP President Bahçeli in gaining the understanding for the coup attempt that it was a riot against not only the ruling party and the people supporting but also all the people. In this way, the coup attempt resulted in the loss of legitimacy of the attempt with not only the participation of the members and supporters of the government but also the participation of Bahçeli.”

“DIFFERENT FROM ALL ATTEMPTS”

Stating that July 15 is different from all the attempts seen during the Turkish modernization history, Prof. Dr. Şenol Durgun spoke: “The July 15 coup attempt is not in the context of modern - traditional or secular - religious conflict, which has been seen throughout the history of Turkish modernization, but is a search for a group that is said to have religious claims or religious appearances, to intervene in politics, and to reorganize politics with unpolitical acts. In addition to being a first in terms of the history of the Republic, such a situation is also very alarming in terms of the quality of those who attempted the coup attempt.”

Don't wait for your preference to the last minute

Educator Abdülkadir Gayretli said that students should research universities and professions well since the preference period is very short and warned: “Don't wait for your preference to the last minute.”

Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) took place on June 27-28. Students who controlled the excitement and stress of the exam started to wait for the exam results and the preference period. According to the official calendar announced by ÖSYM, YKS results will be available to students on July 28, 2020.

“TIME TO DO RESEARCH”

Stating that students should research universities and professions well since the preference period is very short, Istanbul Gelisim University Chairman of theBoard of Trustees Abdulkadir Gayretli spoke: “With the announcement of the results on July 28, the period of entering the preferences into the ÖSYM system is estimated as one week. For this reason, students have a short time to research about the universities and departments in their goals. Therefore, students need to complete their research on universities and departments until the date the results are announced. Students should not wait for their preferences to the last minute.”

“BE RELAX IN THE PREFERENCE PROCESS”

(5)

Stating that many universities maintain their online system due to the COVID-19 process, Gayretli spoke: “Students should obtain information on academic staff, scholarships, opportunities and university facilities from the websites of the universities. They can obtain information about the location and campuses of

universities. If necessary, they should attend online meetings with university officials and get detailed information about the departments. Students can draft the

preference list that they will create during the preference period in line with the information they have obtained as a result of their research. The information gained during this process will enable the students to clarify their goals and to spend the preference time more comfortable and informed. Doing good research will bring students closer to the right decision in their university and department choices.”

“GRADUATE WITH DIPLOMA WITH INTERNATIONAL VALIDITY”

Reminding that students should pay attention to accreditation in university preference booklets, Gayretli said: “Now, which university's which programs are accredited can be seen in the preference booklets. Having accreditation for universities means documenting the quality of education. It is necessary to make more conscious choices by paying attention to this subject because graduating from a program with international accreditation means having an internationally recognized diploma as well. As Istanbul Gelisim University, we are in the position of having the most

accredited university program in Turkey with 60 international accreditations, and our efforts to internationalize correspond with the international ranks we receive.”

'Tick' warning in sacrificial animals

Veterinary Physician Prof. Dr. Mustafa Nizamoğlu, who warned that there may be ticks in sacrificial animals brought from the provinces such as Sivas, Tokat and Yozgat to the sacrificial sales markets in Istanbul, said that it is necessary to wear light-colored and long-sleeved clothes when going to the sacrificial sales places.

Prof. Dr. Nizamoğlu, who recommends giving animals to the animals at least 10 days in advance against the tick, said: “Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (KVVKA) takes the disease until death. When you come home after taking the victim, take off your clothes and check for ticks.”

Veterinary Physician Prof. Dr. Mustafa Nizamoğlu from Istanbul Gelisim University, who lists the precautions to be taken by saying that there may be ticks in the

sacrificial animals remaining for the Sacrifice Feast, said, “Ticks are frequently seen in the provinces up to Tokat, Yozgat, Sivas, Gümüşhane, Erzincan and Kars. Pay special attention to the sacrifices brought to animal markets from these provinces.

The animals brought from these provinces should be checked by veterinarians before they enter the sacrificial sales markets.”

(6)

“LOOK AT THE EAR BACKGROUND, SMOKE REGIONS, THE LEGS OF THE ANIMAL”

Stating that the choice of clothes is important, Prof. Dr. Nizamoğlu said, “If the people who will buy the animals take them to their home and look at their garden for a while, they should check or get them ticked. Especially, it can settle in the hairless areas of the animals, in the ears, under the tail and between the legs. In addition, the victims should be careful not to get the tick on them. Because the tick can fall from the animal to the ground and pass from the ground to the people. On the way to the victim sales market, wear light and long-sleeved clothing. If possible, knock your trouser legs into your socks, take off your clothes immediately when you come home, check tick.”

TICKS GROW SOAKING BLOOD, AND VOMITS VIRUS INTO THE BODY

Nizamoğlu stating that it should not be strived to remove the tick, said: “When the tick comes to the body, it begins to suck blood, at first there is no contagion to the

person. When the virus-carrying tick vomits, it infects the person. The tick is small at first, it does not appear. As the blood sucks it becomes large and visible. If you see the tick, go to the health institution as soon as possible, experts need to remove the tick. If there is no intervention to the tick, it vomits 12 hours after settling anywhere in the body. The clock does not matter when you want to manually remove it, the animal stresses and injects the virus into the human.”

MEDICATE 10 DAYS BEFORE SLAUGHTERING ANIMAL

Nizamoğlu, who recommended taking the medicine to be given to the animal by asking the veterinarian, said: “If there is 10 days to cut the animal, the medicine can be used to remove the tick. Because antibiotics and parasitic drugs are removed from the body within 4 to 7 days. It is necessary to pay attention to meat and milk.

Take the medicine in consultation with the veterinarian. Tick is transmitted to animals from pastures with a lot of bushes. If they do their external parasite medication on time, there is no risk. If this application is made the day before the slaughter, the parasite medicine passes to the human with meat. It is necessary to apply at least 1 week in advance.”

MEASURES TO BE TAKEN IN THE SACRIFICIAL MARKETS

(7)

Emphasizing the attention to the social distance at the victim sales places, Nizamoğlu said: “If they can, they should go sacrificial market with disposable clothing. Due to the pandemic, old bargaining procedures should never be done.

Previously, bargaining was done by shaking hands between the seller and the buyer, this method should not be done at all. The tick that carries the virus does not cause any disease in the animal. But when a person gets infected with a fever, it manifests itself with bleeding in certain parts of the body and leads to death.”

THINGS TO PAY ATTENTION WHILE BUYING SACRIFICIALS

Nizamoğlu recommended paying attention to the appearance of the animal while sacrificing, and added: “Their hair should be shiny and smooth, have the animal checked for fever, veterinarians are already looking. The animal must remain alive, without redness in the eyes. Special attention should be paid to the nose of bovine animals that will not come dribble from their mouths, they should be slightly moist.

Milk teeth must fall out and must have permanent teeth which means they can become victims.”
