INVITATION TO THE CONGRESS
An international congress entitled “Elazığ From the Past to the Present” is going to be held on 17-19 November 2014 with the collaboration of Higher Institution of Ataturk Culture, Language and History – Ataturk Research Center, Governorate of Elazığ, Fırat University, Directorate General for Overseas Promotion and Cultural Relations of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Radio and Television Supreme Council, Cultural Association of Elazığ and the Foundation of Culture and Promotion of Elazığ.
The city of Elazığ, where cultures and civilizations of thousands of years have been blended, is an important historical and cultural center of Eastern Anatolia and Turkey.
Starting with the Hurrians that settled in Eastern Anatolia around 2000 BC, Elazığ has been home to some major civilizations like the Hittites, the Urartians, the Romans, the Byzantine people, the Principality of Cubukogullari, the Artquids, the Dynasty of Seljug and the Ottoman Empire. Total customs and traditions, ceremonies, songs and folk poems, folk medicine that reflects the experience of people, traditional handicrafts, folk dances and the cuisine of Elazığ are considered to be significant with their unique characteristics within national culture.
Today, Elazığ is one of the important and rapidly developing cities with its touristic values as well as cultural and historical assets, developing commercial and industrial life, rich mineral deposits and natural beauties.
Within the framework of the congress, all the historical, social, cultural, economic, geographical and environmental subjects about the city of Elazığ and its region are aimed to be addressed in an academic fashion. Furthermore, contributing to the promotion of Elazığ, detecting the current problems of the city, developing new strategies and forming a vision to find solutions by taking the existing problems into account are the targets of the congress.
The congress which will enable the relevant academicians and researchers to get together is expected to make a contribution to producing knowledge about the city of Elazığ, create new perspectives and provide the decision makers with scientific knowledge.
Paper summaries should be arranged in a way to show the research topic, its scope, the resources used and its contribution to science.
Below are the topics that are planned to be included in the congress. However, the paper topics are not limited to these. Different topics may also be proposed on condition that one does not digress from the main theme and sticks to the general framework of the congress.

We would like to see the scientists and researchers who wish to participate in the congress among us with their academic works based on knowledge, documents and assessments in the areas the main topics of which are listed above
It is a must to participate in the congress with a paper. The qualifications of the papers, the participation form and other information can be found on our website – www.atam.gov.tr The scientists who wish to take part in the congress are supposed to send their paper summaries consisting of a minimum of 300 words with their CVs and the publication lists by filling in the application form that can be found on our web site to elazigkongresi@atam.gov.tr until the end of working time on June 2, 2014. After the paper summaries have been evaluated by the Board of Science of the congress, another announcement about the accepted papers will be made.

Domestic and foreign academicians and researchers who study the relevant subjects are welcome to participate in the congress. For participation, paper proposals containing objectives, methods, resources used and possible findings with a minimum of 300 words must be sent as an attached file to elazigkongresi@atam.gov.tr until June 2, 2014. Paper proposals will be evaluated by the members of the Organizing Committee by taking their conformity with symposium topics and scientific conditions and the originality of the studies into account. The accepted / rejected papers will be announced to the related people within 30 days. The papers which have been presented will be published in Congress Book of Papers after the congress.

The full texts of the accepted papers must be sent as a Word file in conformity with spelling rules and writing format to elazigkongresi@atam.gov.tr until October 13, 2014. The papers the full texts of which have been sent will be involved in the congress program after being examined by Scientific Committee in terms of conformity with abstract and scientific terms.
FU LL TE XT WRITING FO RM AT FO R PAPE RS
1. The heading of the study must be written in bold, using capital letters; the text-alignment should be central and the name of the author should be placed just below, to the right. The academic title, institute and e-mail should be given in an unnumbered footnote at the bottom of the page.
2. Following the heading and name, the Turkish and English summaries/abstracts should be written in size 10pt, each consisting of 300 words. The English summary should also include the English-language heading.
3. The typeface should be Times New Roman, in size 12pt. Tables, footnote and references should be relayed in size 10pt.
4. The study should be written in M. Word program, blocked according to an A4 paper size.
Margins should consist of 2,5cm while the header and footer should be 1,25cm.
5. There must be spacing between paragraphs. The indent: 0 cm, 6pt space-before: 6pt space- after, using single line spacing.
6. Concerning references, the surname of the author, date of publication and page number should be given in this order in brackets as in the following example: (Çaycı, 2002:520). If referenced in a footnote, however, it should be expressed in a sequence following the name and surname of the author, the book title (in bold, articles expressed in quotation marks and italic), the publishing house, place of publication and page number. The sources used should be presented as mentioned in the footnote, in alphabetical order according to surname at the end of the article.
7. Tables and graphics need to be individually numbered, giving their source directly beneath the table or graphic in size 10pt.
8. Original documents, pictures (photos, images, etc.), maps which are not directly relevant to the study should not be presented within the article body but should be numbered and attached at the end of it. High-resolution images should be saved on a CD and submitted separately.
9. The paper is to be from 10 up to a maximum of 20 pages
