CHAPTER IV
FINDINGS
4.1 Presentation
This part presents the findings of the data analysis. It shows the relationship between the variables of level, success, gender, nationality, high school type, attitude and the help the students receive on how to study on one hand and the Language Learning Strategies on the other hand.
4.2 Language Learning Strategy Preference
The scores on the questionnaire were calculated for each one of the respondents and for each strategy to find the average for using each of the six strategies by each of the respondents. A mark out of 100 was given to the frequency of the use of each strategy. The highest score out of six scores is the learner’s most frequently used strategy. For example, a student scores 45 on the Memory Strategies part, 87 on the Cognitive Strategies part, 60 on the Compensation Strategies part, 50 on the Metacognitive Strategies part, 30 on the Affective Strategies part, and 43 on the Social Strategies part. This student is called a Cognitive Learner because Cognitive Strategies are the most frequently used by this language learner.
The frequency analysis of the language learning strategy use show that the respondents to the questionnaire use Metacognitive and Social Strategies more frequently than the other strategies. (Table 10) below shows the frequencies and the percentages of students in accordance to the Learning
