Cells ofwhite adipose tissue secrete leptin in approximate proportion to their triglyceride content. Circulating leptin binds to the long form of the leptin receptor (LEPR) in the brain and, in doing so, promotes growth, energy expenditure, glycaemic control and reproduction.
