Assist. Prof. Dr. Karen HOWELLS

Dr. Howells was born in 1963, in Sleaford, UK. She completed her secondary school education at Heolddu Comprehensive School in Bargoed, Mid Glamorgan.

She completed a BSc (Hons) in Computing from Manchester in 1986. She continued with a professional career in software development, gaining full membership of the British Computer Society, and became accredited as a Chartered Engineer by the Engineering Council in the UK, and a European Engineer through the Federation of professional engineers in Europe, FEANI, as well as a Chartered Practitioner of Information Technology with the BCS. For 12 years she worked as a software engineer, including Director of her own consultancy business (Fast Record Ltd.), working with prestigious organisations such as Sky TV, Bradford and Bingley Building Society, Boots the Chemist and Crookes Healthcare, and the Cooperative Retail Society.

After a short spell teaching at Maramara University in Istanbul, Dr. Howells moved to an academic career, and then completed her MBA in Technology Management [2000] with Deakin Universtity, Melbourne, and her DBA in entrepreneurship [2015] with Charles Sturt University, Bathurst, Australia. From 1994 until 2014, Dr. Howells was a senior lecturer at the European University of Lefke, where she was responsible for the establishment of the department of Computer Information Systems and later the department of Management Information Systems.

In September 2016 she was appointed as Assistant Professor in the Department of Marketing, in the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at Near East University.

Dr. Howells is currently a reviewer for Journal of Gender Studies (SCCI), the International Journal of Gender & Entrepreneurship, and KADIN/WOMAN 2000.

She has served as a committee member on a number of international conferences and symposiums, as well as being selected as a session chair. Dr. Howells was also selected as a government advisor on vocational education at tertiary level and was involved with the accompanying YODAK Strategic Plan for Higher Education Project.

Dr. Howells is also an honorary lecturer with the University of Liverpool (UK), sometimes working as an online instructor on their MBA and MSc Project Management programmes. She is also an International Alumni Ambassador for Manchester Metropolitan University.

Dr. Howells speaks English, Turkish, and some Welsh. She is widowed with a daughter and a son.
