THE EFFECT OF THE CRISIS ON CONSUMER SPENDING:

Abstract

This paper examines the effects of the Global Economic Crisis on consumer behaviors in Giresun. In order to determine how consumers adjust their consumption as a response to the crisis, data of horizontal-section obtained from questionnaires which is applied 384 consumer in center of Giresun was analysed with SPSS programme. According to our test results, consumers has changed their comsumption composition during the crisis. Likewise, while some kind of expenditures remains unchanged, the others have increased or decreased. In accordance with the literature, we found that cheapest brand preference has been increased. Moreover, ki-square test results point out that there is a meaningful relationship between level of monthly income and pereference of cheapest brands,
