Istanbul: Bridge Between East and West

Byzantium. Constantinople. Istanbul.

Three names for a single city with an extra

ordinary history.

Byzantium: the ancient city of the

Bosphorus. Constantinople: built like Rome

on seven hills by the Emperor Constantine.

Istanbul: linking Europe and Asia, the exotic

and fascinating city of the former sultans,

capital of the Ottoman Empire.

You’ll discover in Istanbul echoes of the

past almost everywhere— mosques, palaces,

museums, fortresses, minarets and

marketplaces.

But you’ll find, also, all the modern

facilities and diversions of a cosmopolitan

city. And now the Istanbul-Sheraton Hotel

adds new luster to the city that has been at

the crossroads of civilizations for over 2,600

years.

From the roof of the centrally-located

Istanbul-Sheraton (at 23 stories, the tallest building in Istanbul), you'll have breathtaking, 360° panoramic views of the city, the Straits of Bosphorus, the Sea of Marmara and the Golden Horn.

Any list of "m ust-see" attractions will include:

Taksim Park. The Istanbul-Sheraton is located

here in one of the city’s most beautiful areas. Nearby are many fascinating sights— palaces, museums and monuments.

Topkapi Palace Museum. Priceless jewels, art

treasures, harems, sultans’ palaces, fountains, mosques, kiosks. 400 fascinating buildings in all.

Saint Sophia. Built by the Emperors Constantine

and Justinian. Originally a mosque, now a museum exhibiting Byzantine art.

The Blue Mosque. Constructed in the 17th

Century. Exquisite blue tile. A masterpiece of architecture.

The Covered Bazaar. An Arabian Nights covered

market of 4,400 shops on 200 streets.

The Harbor. Walk across Galata Bridge spanning

the famous Golden Horn. The bridge connects the new and old sections of Istanbul. Climb the Galata Tower and see ships of all types from all corners of the world passing through the Straits.

And . the Underground Cistern of Justinian the

Great; the Hippodrome; Dolmabahce Palace; the Military Museum; the Rumeli Fortress.. .and a thousand-and-one other sights.

Istanbul— modern, magnificent, mysterious— now augments its treasures with the new, majestic Istanbul-Sheraton Hotel.
