About Program

By preparing students to the sector, we will be serving for a considerable amount of increase in the quality of the education in our country. In addition, the courses of the program will be offered by the lecturers who have professional knowledge in the field, especially who work at the top of the related sector. Students in this program acquire skills and knowledge not only in the discipline of business administration but also expertise in banking and insurance; therefore their promotion to executive positions within time will be highly probable, depending on their self-development and success.

Objectives

The Associate Degree Programme in Banking and Insurance aims to train qualified staff , banking and insurance within the framework of the basic principles of the profession, equipped with professional knowledge and experience, professional foreign language skills of the profession, to train manpower who are aware of the responsibility and business ethics.

The total credits required for the satisfactory completion of the curriculum are 68 credits. The program additionally requires two internships each enduring 20 work days.

Course Descriptions introductory level - how international banking works as well as examining topics such as fractional reserve banking, reserve ratios, treasuries, leveraging, the Fed funds rates, and the London Interbank Offer Rate (LIBOR). (This course is given in Turkish)

MBAS102 Finansın Temelleri (Fundamentals of Finance) (3 Credits) Designed to build an understanding of the various banking and finance industries through an examination of the segments of these industries and appraisals of the financial and management skills that future managers need to succeed. The course pedagogy is enhanced with student-led discussion regarding current events in global financial markets. Students gain insights into the development and characteristics of the different industries through popular trade magazines, newspapers, Internet sources, and text. To obtain an understanding and ability to use basic business financial management concepts and tools of analysis such as valuation, risk-return relationships, financial statement analysis, capital budgeting, cost of capital, capital structure, and working capital management. MBAS103 Bankacılıkta Kredi Yönetimi ve Analizi (Credit Management and Analysis in Banking) (3 Credits)The aim of this course is to understand the purpose and scope of the credit management in banks, to teach the credit risk analysis and lending and monitoring activities within the framework of the bank-customer relations. MBAS104 Elementer Sigorta Branşları (Elementary Insurance Branches) (3 Credits) The aim of this course is to introduce students to the segmentation of insurance branches and all insurance practices at elementary branches. Course includes fire and engineering insurances, definition and theory, types, causes, basic terms, security measures, additional guarantees, general and special conditions, loss of profits, pricing, damages, construction-assembly and electronic equipment insurances coverage, conditions, damage information, the scope of the risks and classification, types of accident and liability insurance and the asset insurances. Each insurance branch are examined separately with case studies in the course. (This course is given in Turkish)

MBAS105 Mali Analiz (Financial Analysis) (3 Credits) This course emphasizes the fundamental techniques of financial statement analysis. Building upon core accounting and investment concepts, the course covers the analysis (including ratio analysis) and interpretation of financial accounting information including the balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows. The course also examines the use of accounting information in investment and credit decisions. This course is designed to prepare students to interpret and analyze financial statements for tasks such as credit and security analyses, lending and investment decisions, and other decisions that rely on financial data. This course explores in greater depth financial reporting from the perspective of financial statement users. Students develop a sufficient understanding of the concepts and recording

procedures and therefore are able to interpret various disclosures in an informed manner. Students learn to compare companies financially, understand cash flow, and grasp basic profitability issues and risk analysis concepts. Ultimately, students who complete this course develop a more efficient and effective approach to researching, interpreting, and analyzing financial statements. (This course is given in Turkish)

MBAS201 Finansal Ekonometri (Financial Mathematics) (3 Credits) This course includes time series and panel data analysis, stationary tests, ARIMA models, asymmetric GARCH models, cointegration and error correction mechanisms, VAR and causality. Applications in the computer program will also be made in the scope of course. (This course is given in Turkish)

MBAS202 FinansalYönetim (Financial Management) (3 Credits) The aim of this course is an introduction to advanced concepts and methods of financial management. Topics include risk and return, asset evaluation, capital budgeting, capital structure, business financial planning and working capital management. (This course is given in Turkish)

MBAS203 Para ve Sermaye Piyasaları (Money and Capital Markets) (3 Credits)The aim of this course is to examine the business and the economics of money and capital markets. To that end, we will analyze the structural interrelationships among the important participants in the Turkey financial markets. The course topics include flows of funds, determinants of interest rates, monetary policy and interest rates, money and capital market instruments, and problems in managing financial institutions.(This course is given in Turkish)

MBAS205 Yatırım Analizi ve Portföy Yönetimi (Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management) (3 Credits )The aim of this course is to inform students on basic investment concepts and investment decisions, introduction to portfolio management, portfolio management theory, portfolio management process and asset allocation analysis, equity investment, fixed income securities investments, derivative investments, alternative investments, and asset management, the presentation of asset management sector and companies, portfolio management strategies, performance measurement, risk management subjects.(This course is given in Turkish)

MBAS206 Uluslararası Finans ve Türev Ürünler (International Finance and Derivatives Products) (3 Credits) The aim of this course is to inform students on foreign exchange market, balance of payments, international investment and banking, monetary and fiscal policy in an open economy, economic integration and monetary union, the international monetary system, optimum currency areas, exchange prediction and hedging instruments, foreign exchange options, export finance, international payments and collections methods.(This course is given in Turkish)

MIST101 İstatistik (Statistics) (3 Credits) The purpose of this course is to increase students’

knowledge about statistics. Data summaries and descriptive statistics; introduction to a statistical computer package; Probability: distributions, expectation, variance, covariance, portfolios, central limit theorem; statistical inference of univariate data; Statistical inference for bivariate data:

inference for intrinsically linear simple regression models. This course will have a business focus, but is not inappropriate for students in the college. (This course is given in Turkish)

BAS302 Bankacılık Hukuku (Banking Law) (3 Credits) This is an introductory course intended to familiarize the students with the basic concepts of arithmetic, number theory, set theory, symbolic logic, and finite mathematics. Topics include logic, sets, numeration systems, arithmetic in non-decimal systems, system of integers, elementary number theory and modular arithmetic.

There will be a strong emphasis on critical thinking, problem solving, understanding concepts and their applications. (This course is given in Turkish)

MMAT101 Matematik (Mathematics) (3 Credits) The objective of this course is to introduce general concepts and the terminology related to the insurance sector. The risk management in the insurance sector and legal perspectives will be analyzed as well in the content of the course. The effects of globalization and some worldwide strategies will be demonstrated during the lectures.

The quality management, the importance of customer relations, expertising activities, the competition level, the organizational structure of companies and the related EU standards will be investigated within the perspective of insurance sector. (This course is given in Turkish)

ELECTIVES

MGRS202 Girişimcilik (Entrepreneurship) (3 Credits) The purpose of this course is to increase students’ knowledge about Turkish business life and entrepreneurship. Students will also be able to analyze the economic issues of the global world. In line with this objective, the course will focus on the contemporary issues in Turkish business life. The course will cover theoretical and practical information about global change. Issues related with strategic management, human resources, marketing, production, business ethics will also be examined. MBAS208 Zaman Yönetimi (Time Management)(3 Credits)The aim of this course is to teach students time management approaches developed for the effective use of time. Course covers the

history of time management, the definition and the relativity of time, personal time management, time management training and business life, the importance of time management for managers and ABC analysis, success approach and technology approach in the context of time management approaches. KYP001 Kariyer ve Yaşam Programı (Career and Life Programming) (1 Credit) The purpose of this course is to provide an overview of career development theories and decision-making skills for career/life planning. It focuses on self-assessment, choosing a major, exploring career options and developing an action plan to help achieve career goals. The course engages students in the use of critical thinking skills in evaluating their interests, values, skills, and personality in order to understand how personal characteristics influence career choices. MBAS204 Risk ve Sigorta (Risk and Insurance)(3 Credits) The aim of this course is to gain knowledge and skills to students in the basic principles of insurance, functions, risk concept, contract, premiums, institutions and organizations in the industry and some events might encounter in everyday life, such as the popular private pensions. (This course is given in Turkish)

MBAS207 Ekonomik Göstergelerin Yorumlanması (Interpretation of Economic Indicators) (3 Credits) This course includes basic knowledge of interpretation of developments in the markets in the light of the macroeconomic indicators. Within the course economic indicators are classified according to their importance and influence and each is examined separately with case studies.

Inflation and inflation targeting, the central bank and monetary policy, fiscal and budgetary policies, balance of payments and new developments in the financial markets are discussed. (This course is given in Turkish)
