Solutions prepared on the basis of dilution
Solvents prepared according to the amount of solute
Solutions Based on Dilution Method
It is used to prepare a lower concentration solution using high concentration solution.
C1.V1 = C2.V2 M1.V1 = M2.V2
C1: The concentration of the high concentration solution we have
V1: Volume of high concentration solution we have
C2: The concentration of solution we want to prepare
V2: The volume of solution we want to prepare
For example; How many ml of water is needed to dilute 10 ml of 5% NaCl solution to 2%?
10x5 = 2xV2, V2 = 25 ml
25-10 = 15 ml of water should be added as the final volume should be 25 ml.
ppm (Parts Per Million) Solutions
ppm is a unit used in very low concentration solutions.
A solution of 1 million parts by weight of the solution consists of a 1 ppm solution. It is usually the amount of substance in mg dissolved in 1 L solution.
1ppm = 1 mg / L
For example; What is the percent of a solution containing 20 ppm Na?
20ppm = 20 mg / L = 2 mg / 100 ml = 0.002g / 100 ml, 0.002%
