Edgar Allan Poe’s gruesome short story "The Black Cat" was written in 1843. In this story, Poe narrates the story of the unnamed narrator as he awaits execution in a prison cell. Characterization, narration, inner-conflicts of the narrator, and the setting will be discussed to further understand the uncanny relationship of the narrator with his wife and the black cat.
