The last story of this course is William Faulkner’s "That Evening Sun" written in 1931. Faulkner narrates the story of Nancy, a free black woman under the service of the Compson family. This story takes place in Faulkner’s imaginary Yoknapatawpha county and features the Compson family from Faulkner’s The Sound and the Fury.
Characterization, narration, racism and the setting will be discussed to further understand the race relationships between the black and white characters of the story. Students will analyze the story together with the literary terms they studied at the beginning of the semester.
