DR. DERVIS YUKSEL
He was born in Nicosia on November 18, 1950. After completing Ataturk elementary and Bayraktar Secondary schools, he graduated from Haydarpasa Commercial Lycee` in 1969.
Then, he continued his education at The Middle East Technical University, where he graduated with a B.Sc. Degree in Economics in 1978. He obtained an MSc. Degree in Environmental Management in 1996 and a PhD. Degree in Social Sciences-Environment in 2003 at The Ankara University. Upon his return back to Cyprus in 1978, he worked in different private and public institutions of the Northern Cyprus. He started working at the Prime Ministry-State Planning Organization in 1984, where he retired as a Planning Expert in 2007. From 2003 until 2007 he worked as a part-time lecturer at The Near East University, where he has been employed as a full time lecturer since 2007. In July 1991, he was awarded with the one-year Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program and completed a study on Tourism Planning and Environmental Policy attending several Universities and Institutions in the U.S.A. and an internship program at The World Bank. In 1996 he was awarded with a prize by the Med-Campus Program of the EU for the best thesis of the European Masters Degree Program in Environmental Management. He was elected to participate in the Tourism Experts group by the USAID and invited to attend the 10- day “Environmentally Sound and Culturally Aware Development Conference” in Washington DC, U.S.A in 2004. His expertise is on Sustainable Tourism and Environment, specializing on the Karpasia Region of Northern Cyprus. He has several publications, presented his studies in a variety of conferences and participated in many debates on radio/tv.
He is married with a child.
