BIOGRAPHY:Associate .Prof.Dr. Nesil Baytin, born in Zonguldak-Turkey (1948), holds B.Arch.
(M.E.T.U.-Ankara) (1972) ,M.Arch.(M.E.T.U.-Ankara) (1979)and Ph.D.(Dokuz Eylül University-İzmir) (1985) degrees in Architecture. She has worked in Ministry of Resettlement and Reconstruction for a short while (Jan.-May 1973) where she left for a ‘Research expert’
post in Building Research Institute (BRI) of Scientific and Technical Research Council (STRC) of Turkey.(1973-1980) There, she was awarded two scholarships, first to participate an international course on ‘Housing, Planning and Building’ (ICHPB) ,and later in order to undertake a research project on behalf of BRI in Bouwcentrum of Rotterdam-The
Netherlands, in 1976 and 1977,respectively. From 1981 on she has been teaching in architectural departments of different universities, namely, Ege University (1981-1982), Dokuz Eylül University (1982-1987)and İstanbul Technical University (1987-1997). During her working period in the Department of Architecture of DEU she was awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Education of Turkey and visited the Postgraduate Center of Catholic University of Leuven-Belgium for undertaking a research project (Dec.1983-May.1984). She acquired her ‘Associate Professorship’ in the Faculty of Architecture of ITU (1989) and left for Eastern Mediterranean University in 1997.
She carried out research projects individually or in groups in The Netherlands, Belgium and in Turkey; was a group member in two competition projects which received ‘Honorable Mention’ awards; presented and published several papers in international conferences and seminars, authored two books which was published by BRI, co-ordinated in and contributed to the organization of several national and international meetings and Symposia. She designed and constructed the wet-cores of forty villas and a water-front residence in İstanbul-Türkiye.
She took place in different committees in the Faculty of Architecture-EMU besides teaching activities on undergraduate and graduate levels (preparing lecture notes on CDs, organizing technical excursions to the construction sites, and conferences by the invited experts of leading firms of Türkiye in the building construction sector).She established ‘Housing:
Education,Research, Advisory Center’ (HERA-C) within the body of the Faculty of Achitecture in 2006, wherein its first international symposium was held in May 2008, on
‘Doctoral Studies on Housing Research’ jointly with the ‘Housing Research and Education Center’ (HREC) of ITU. She is a natural member of ‘Chamber of Turkish Architects’ and a member of ENHR (European Network for Housing Research),and designated contact person of the Department of Architecture-EMU for CIB (Counseil International du Batiment)- (The International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction).

- Establishment of U-HERA/ HERA-C:
Dr.Baytin established U-HERA: Unit for Housing -Education - Research – Advisory, in January 2006 under ‘Design Center’ as the first step; later to be developed and be recognized as a center of Faculty of Architecture in 2008 with the name : HERA-C: Housing Education Research and Advisory Center.-Activities of U-HERA:
