EARLY LIFE OF THE PROPHET

• His birth and childhood:
• “The apostle was born on Monday, 12th Rabi’ul- awwal, in the year of the elephant”
• It is alleged in popular stories (and only God knows the truth) tha Amina bint Wahb, the
mother of God’s apostle, used to say when she
was pergnant with God’s apostle that a voice
said to her, “ you are pregnant with the Lord of
this people and when he is born say,
• “ I put him in the care of the One from the
evil of every envier; the call him Muhammad.”
As she was pregnant with him she saw a light come forth from her by which she could see the castles of Busra in Syria. Shortly
afterwards Abdullah the apostle’s father died while his mother was still pregnant.”

• It is said that his grandfather took the boy into the Kaba [place of worship] and prayed to
Allah and thanked Him for His gift; then he
• brought him again to his mother. Soon he hired for the boy a nurse, whose name was
• Halima.Halima was the daughter of Abu
Dhuayb of the Banu Sad tribe.
• Amina dies and the apostle lives with his grandfather.
• Amina died in Abwa between Mecca and
Medina on her return from a visit with him to his maternal uncles of B. Adiyy b. al-Najjar
when he was six years old.
• When the apostle was eight years of age, eight years after the year of the elephant, his
grandfather died.
• Abu Talib becomes guardian of the apostle.
• The story of Bahira:
• The Sacrilegious War (Fijar): This war brote out when the apostle was twenty years of age.
• (between Kinana and Qays Aylan) Quraysh was
with Kinana.
• The apostle of God married with Khadija. (25 years old)
• The rebuilding of the Ka’bah. (35 years old)
• His early religion: Bahira said to him :’young boy I ask you in the name of al-Lat and al-Uzza to please answer to all the questions I ask you.’
• “…They allege that the Prophet of God replied, ‘Do not ask me for anything in the name of al-Lat and al-Uzza… (Ibn Ishaq, Sira)
• “We have been told that the Apostle of God once mentioned al-Uzza saying, "I have
offered a white sheep to al-'Uzza, while I was a follower of the religion of my
people." (Ibn al-Kalbi (d.206/821), Kitab al-asnam, p.18)
