INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON TURKISH PRESS HISTORY (OCTOBER 19-21, 2016/ELAZIĞ)
Since Turkish Press is seen as the most important published resource in the Ottoman and Republic periods, in cooperation with Atatürk Research Center, Governorate of Elazığ, Elazığ Municipality and Rectorship of Fırat University, an international symposium within the field of Turkish Press History in Elazığ on October 19-21,2016 is being planned.
The Press is a significant institution which effects political and social developments and economical process.In the Ottoman period it entered into social life as a state monopoly and since the year 1860 it has kept its growth by means of private enterprises.
From the mid-19th century to the beginnig of the 20th century, issues such as effects of the Press, its development, positive and negative contributions to the social life will be opened to discussion with a symposium.In this symposium the Press, mainly on national and local grounds, is aimed to be handled thoroughly throughout its history.
The topics of the symposium which will contribute to Turkish Press History substantially are as follows:

We would like to see the scientists and the researches who wish to participate in the Symposium with their academic studies based on new information and documents in the fields mentioned as titles above.
It is necessary that the Paper has not been presented or published elsewhere before and has not been used in a “chapter,title or subheading” of any published book, or in any thesis even if it has not been published.
Scientists who want to participate in the Symposium are required to send their Abstracts with the Participation Form and Certification (signed) which can be found in our web page.
For participation, paper abstracts containing their resumes and publication lists with a minimum of 300 words must be sent as an attached file to turkbasintarihi@atam.gov.tr. The deadline is the end of the working time on 20 May 2016. Additionally, post-graduate and doctorate subjects, if published names must be stated. Official languages of the symposium are Turkish and English.After the evaluation of the Paper abstracts by the members of the Organizing and Scientific Committees, a second announcement will be made as to the Abstracts accepted.
Transportation and accommodation expenses of the participants who will give a presentation in the Symposium will be covered.
TERMS OF PARTICIPATION IN THE SYMPOSIUM Abstract Submission and Evaluation
Domestic and foreign academicians as well as researchers who study the relevant subjects are welcome to participate in the symposium. For participation, paper abstracts containing objectives, methods, resources used and possible findings with a minimum of 300 words and the Certification found in our web page must be sent as an attached file to turkbasintarihi@atam.gov.tr. The deadline is the end of the working time on 20 May 2016.
Paper abstracts will be evaluated by the members of the Organizing and Scientific Committees by taking their conformity with symposium topics and scientific conditions as well as the originality of the studies into account. Assessments by the committee members will be in the way of acceptance / correction / rejection. The accepted papers will be announced to the related people and they will be asked to send the full text until 26 August 2016 so that they can be involved in the final program.
Papers are supposed to be original and it is required that they have not been presented or printed before and that they are not titles, subtitles or parts of a published book or a thesis even though the thesis has not been published.
Official languages of the symposium are Turkish and English.
Submission of the Full Text
The full texts of the accepted papers must be sent as a Word file in conformity with spelling rules and writing format to turkbasintarihi@atam.gov.tr until 26 August 2016. The papers the full texts of which have been sent will be involved in the symposium program after being examined by Organizing and Scientific Committees in terms of conformity with abstract and scientific terms.
Publishing of the Papers as Books
After reviewing the Papers within the frame of question-answer section and discussions during the Symposium, Participants are going to be asked to send a confirmation e-mail so that their full texts which they have sent previously can be published or the latest full text which they have revised to turkbasintarihi@atam.gov.tr.
FULL TEXT WRITING FORMAT FOR PAPERS
1. The heading of the study must be written in bold, using capital letters; the text- alignment should be central and the name of the author should be placed just below, to the right. The academic title, institution and e-mail should be given respectively in an unnumbered footnote at the bottom of the page.
2. Following the heading and author name, the Turkish and English summaries/abstracts should be written in size 10pt, each consisting of 300 words. The English summary should also include the heading in English.
3. The typeface should be Times New Roman, in size 12pt. Tables, footnotes and references should be relayed in size 10pt.
4. The study should be written in M. Word program, blocked according to an A4 paper size. Margins should consist of 2,5cm while the header and footer should be 1,25cm.
5. There must be spacing between paragraphs. The indent: 0 cm, 6pt space-before: 6pt space-after, using single line spacing.
6. Concerning references, the surname of the author, date of publication and page number should be given in this order in brackets as in the following example: (Çaycı, 2002:520). If referenced in a footnote, however, it should be expressed in a sequence following the name and surname of the author, the book title (in bold, articles expressed in quotation marks and italic), the publishing house, place and date of publication and page number. The sources used should be presented as in the format of footnotes, in alphabetical order according to surname at the end of the article.
7. Tables and graphics need to be individually numbered, giving their resources directly beneath the table or graphic in size 10pt.
8. Original documents, pictures (photos, images, etc.), maps which are not directly relevant to the study should not be presented within the article body but should be numbered and attached at the end of it. High-resolution images should be saved on a CD and submitted separately.
9. The paper is to be from 10 up to a maximum of 20 pages.
