Coin minted at Pergamum in the 2nd century BC
Anatolian treasures of the
Bibliothèque Nationale collected and classified since the 17th century are on view in an exhibition organised with the help of the French Institute
of Anatolian Studies of Istanbul. The institute’s greatest archaeological find

PRINTEMPS MODE
The clothes here are from Sadberk Hamm Miizesi in Istanbul, on display in Printemps department store in March
A unique display of 18th and 19th century women’s clothes from the Sadberk Hamm Miizesi in Istanbul is expected to draw crowds at the Printemps stores in Boulevard Haussman in March.
The exhibition from the prize-winning privately owned museum on the Bosphorus is the focus of an ambitious project to turn an entire floor of Paris’s best known department store into a bazaar more accom modating than its prototype in Istanbul.
The alleys of this 1,000-metre stage-set bazaar lead past make-believe shops where every con ceivable consumer good imported from Turkey is on sale. There is also a Café Loti, where Turkish coffee is
served, and a potter, a calligrapher and a kilim weaver displaying their crafts.
Other features of Printemps’ Turkish week include a series of ney concerts and a creative alternative to an exhibition catalogue by Teresa Battisti, the curator of the Asian Collections of the Musée de l’Homme, entitled Les Ottomanes, in which she describes the life of Turkish women in the 18th and 19th centuries.
