N ecip F a z ı l was born on 26 May 1905 in Is ta n b u l. He s ta r te d sch oo l a t an e a r ly age and l a t e r a tte n te d both th e Is ta n b u l U n iver s i t y and th e Sorbonne in P a r is . He retu rn ed home in th e e a r ly y e a rs o f th e Turkish R e p u b lic . He worked f i r s t in banking and l a t e r he ta u gh t in s e v e r a l ed u c a tio n a l i n s t i t u t i o n s . During t h i s p e r io d , he d evoted a l l o f h is spare tim e t o h is r e a l c a l l i n g , l i t e r a t u r e . H is poems a t t r a c t e d c o n s id e ra b le a t t e n t io n . The te c h n iq u e , the s tr u c tu r e , and th e c o n te n t o f h is poems were f a r s u p e rio r t o those o f h is con tem p oraries. O r i g i r a l l y a p o e t o f th e in n er w orld and r e f l e c t i o n , he became an Is la m ic p h ilo so p h e r f o llo w in g h is a s s o c ia tio n in 1934 w ith Ab- dülhakim A r v a s î, a s u fî te a c h e r . From then onwards, he d evoted h is w r it in g t o a t t r a c t i n g adherents t o h is id e a s . He abandoned te a c h in g in 1942 and e n te re d jo u r n a l ism . N ec ip F a z ı l K ısakürek, who d evoted h is a c t i v i t i e s t o th e c r e a t io n o f a g e n e ra tio n which would "champion th e causes o f r e l i g i o n , language, i n t e l l e c t , s c ie n c e , honour, and homeland" passed a c o n s id e r a b le p o r t io n o f h is l i f e a f t e r 1943 in p r is o n .
In 1980 he was honoured w ith the t i t l e o f Sultan üş '-Şuarâ (M aster o f P o e ts ) by th e Tu rkish L i t e r a tu r e Wakf. The M in is tr y o f C u ltu re a ls o p re s e n te d him w ith an award in th e same y e a r.
Many o f h is works have been pub lis h e d and most o f th e l a t e s t e d i tio n s o f th e s e have been s u b je c te d t o a m eticu lou s examen t o ensure t h e i r c o n fo rm ity w ith G od's com mandments and p r a c t ic e s and words o f th e P ro p h et.
