Obezite sosyal bir hastalıktır. Yaşam tarzı, anane ve gelenekler obezite gelişiminde çok etkilidir, bu nedenle obeziteden korunmak zor olabilir. Yinede aşağıdaki önlemler alınabilir:
Hazır gıdadan uzak durmak,
Bol lifli, az yağlı ve az kalorili beslenmek, Aktiviteyi arttırmak, Egzersiz yapmak,
Evde TV ve bilgisayarı kısıtlamak ( özellikle çocuklar için ),
Dengeli beslenmek gerekirse bunun için diyetisyed
desteği istemek,
Küçük porsiyonlara alışmak bunun için gerekirse tabakları ve kaşıkları değiştirmek,genetik,
Yemek pişirirken ölçüyü kaçırmamak, gerektiği kadar pişirmeyi öğrenmek,
Tencereyi sofraya getirmemek,
Yüksek kalorili gıda ve içeceklerden uzak durmak.
