The variation of compression characteristics of a direct tableting
agent, Avicel by precompression
The direct tableting agents are not only used far direct tab~eting procedun~s, but because of certain properties they possess, they are used in wet and dry granulatJion methods as well. The slugging method applied far precompression might change the compression characteristics of direct tabletting agents, generally ·it has a negativc effect.
Far this purpose, tablets con- taining 75 ·0ıo acetylsalicylic acid and 20 °ıo A vicel vvere prepared

both by dir:ect compressıion and slugging methods. In order to de-
Lerınine to what extent the use of
saıne quantity of Avicle in thesc n1ethods, affects the compressibi- lity of the bulk, its consolidation and compression .behaviours have been examined.
Finally, it has be·en c bserved that the PY value of thc slug ınass
subjected to precomprcssion incre- ased, and its consolıidation shovved parallel variation, that is, its com- presslon characteristics changed.
