Sevilay CANGÜL
Sevilay Cangül studied at the Department of English Language and Literature in Ankara
University. She worked as an interpreter from English to Turkish / Turkish to English at TAK for two years. She started working as a teacher of English in the public high schools of the Ministry of Education (TRNC) in 1978. She obtained Master Degree on Educational Managing, Planning and Inspecting.
Since Sevilay Cangül believed the importance of lifelong learning in teaching, she applied and got a CASP scholarship in 1985 for two months on Teaching Methods of English for foreign students in American University, in Washington DC. In 2000, as a Fullbright scholar, she studied on the education system in America through the American Study Program. She did her best to be one of the best teachers of English in order to be beneficial for her students and her country. She taught English in Technical School, Commercial Lycee, Secondary School, High Scool. She also worked as an inspector for two years in the Ministry of Education in 1993-1995, and she worked as a depudy head from August,1995 to November, 1999 as well.
Sevilay Cangül was attended as the Director of Common Services for Education in the Ministry of Education in November, 1999. As a supporter of enhancing the teaching abilities of teachers by life long learning, she planned and organized in-service courses for the teachers of all levels of teaching, both the primary and secondary school teachers, and for the school masters as well.
Besides supplying a project with British Council for Primary Schools, she worked on a three- year project with Oregon University, America on Enhancing English in Secondary Schools in TRNC.
Sevilay Cangül also became members of the board of various Non-governmental Associations such as KAYAD, Turkish Cypriot Association of University Women which is the member of both International Federation of University Women, IFUW and University Women of Europe, UWE. She has also been the head of the board of TCAUW in 2005-2007. She had benefits on representing the Turkish Cypriot university women on international area.
Sevilay Cangül has been awarded with the Sertificate of “To Specialize on E.U.” and “ To Analyse E.U.” organized by European -Policy Information Centre.
Sevilay Cangul has been teaching English for over thirty five years. Since she has retired she become the staff of NEU for the last thirteen years. She is married with two children.
