題目:Study on the Need Assessment of Smoking Cessation among Adolescents in

Taipei Area, Taiwan.

Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to analyze the need assessment of smoking cessation among the adolescents in Taipei area, Taiwan. The experiment schools included six schools in Taipei city and county, including two junior high schools, two senior high schools, and two vocational high schools. Seventy-eight smoking students, fourty-seven teachers, and eighteen experts and government administrators participated the study. The data were collected via investigation and focus group interviews. The study assessed the implementation of adolescent cessation programs and the problems and needs of smoking adolescents. The data was collected between November, 2007 and February, 2008.

The main findings were as follows:

1. The smoking students had low motivation to quit. The junior high school students were vulnerable to peer influence and indicated that their friends and peers were important to their cessation. The future intervention may strengthen the motivation of cessation and the incentive to participate in the program, design courses focusing on peer influence, strengthen the hazards of smoking, pay attention to individual differences, develop teaching materials for students in different age, and integrate the resources of schools and communities. 2. The senior and vocational high school students tended to be self-centered and

their success of smoking cessation was related to their willing to quit. Future intervention may focus on strengthening the motivation to quit, cessation methods, the influences of smoking, the advantages of quit, and how to deal with withdrawal syndrome.

3. Based on the need assessment, it was found that the needs of cessation were different between the junior high and high school students. However, the needs of the senior high students were similar to that of the vocational high school students. It is suggested that different teaching materials should be developed for junior high school students and senior/vocational high school students separately.
