Abstract:Local Governments essential for democracy because of their open structures for participation and inspection. The debates on local government have been shaped around the problem of scale. At the end of the 2012, the major and comprehensive changes on the metropolitan municipality system have been brought by Law No. 6360, particularly in scale. The enforcement of the Law led to the emergence of a dual structure. Hatay is the one of the provinces that was formed as a metropolitan municipality under this law. Law No. 6330 will have administrative, political, social, financial/economic and urban effects on the province of Hatay.
This study examines and evaluates the effects of this law on Turkish municipal system in general and Hatay in particular.
