• Cachexia: It is the decrease of the total mass of the body, anemia and weight loss.

• Causes of cachexia;
-Loss of appetite
-Disturbed sense of taste
-Increase in basal metabolic rate
-Cytokines such as TNFα and IL-1 released
from active macrophages inhibit the appetite center
• Paraneoplastic Syndromes (PNS)
Paraneoplastic syndromes are a complex of symptoms that occur due to hormones
released from the tumor, regardless of the spread of the tumor.
-Hypercalcemia
-Cushing's syndrome
Cancer Staging and Rating
• Staging of the cancer is based on the size of the primary lesion, the amount of spread to regional lymph nodes, and the presence of metastasis.
TNM system is the most frequently used method of staging.
• T (tumor diameter): Size of the primary lesion N (lymph node metastasis): Whether there is a spread to regional lymph nodes, the amount of spread
M Metastasis to distant organs
T1, T2, T3, T4: the increased of tumor diameter.
N0, N1, N2, N3: increasing the lymph node involvement.
M0, M1: distant metastasis is present or/not
