ON THE OCCASION OF 100TH ANNIVERSARY, THE CAUCASIAN (EAST) FRONT IN THE WORLD WAR I-INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM

25-27 SEPTEMBER 2014 / ERZURUM

Symposium Announcement

An international symposium entitled “On The Occasion Of 100th Anniversary, The Caucasian (East) Front in The World War I” is going to be held on 25-27 September 2014 in Erzurum, with the collaboration of Higher Institution of Ataturk Culture, Language and History – Ataturk Research Center, Governorate of Erzurum, and Ataturk University.

In the Caucasian (East) front, the political, military, economic and social developments, from the nineteenth century to the early twentieth century, are aimed to be explored in the light of new knowledge and findings.

The symposium which will enable the relevant academicians and researchers to get together is expected to make a contribution to producing knowledge, and create new perspectives.

Paper summaries should be arranged in a way to show the research topic, its scope, the resources used and its contribution to science.

Below are the topics that are planned to be included in the symposium. Different topics may also be proposed on condition that sticks to the general framework of the symposium.

Paper Topics:

1- States’ Caucasian politics from the nineteenth century to the early twentieth century

2- Military and political developments before the World War I 3- Caucasian Front in the First World War

Wars and treaties

Russian invasion and its effects in the region

Bolshevik revolution and effects on Caucasian Front Migrations

Captives

Expedition and settlement Epidemics

Social and economic life

4- East Front after the First World War

We would like to see the scientists and researchers who wish to participate in the symposium among us with their academic works based on knowledge, documents and original assessments in the areas the main topics of which are listed above.

The accommodation and transportation expenses of participants will be covered by the Directorate of Atatürk Research Center and Ataturk University.

TERM S O F PARTI CIPATIO N IN TH E SYM PO SIUM Submission of Abstract and Evaluation

Domestic and foreign academicians and researchers who study the relevant subjects are welcome to participate in the symposium. For participation, paper proposals containing objectives, methods, resources used and possible findings with 300-400 words must be sent as an attached file to kafkascephesi@atam.gov.tr until May 16, 2014. Paper proposals will be evaluated by the members of the Board of Science, and Organizing Committee by taking their conformity with symposium topics and scientific conditions and the originality of the studies into account. Committee members will conclude their evaluation as: approved / to be revised / rejected. The accepted papers will be announced on June 06, 2014. The papers will be presented in Turkish and English.

Full Paper Submission and Evaluation

The full texts of the accepted papers must be sent as a Word file in conformity with spelling rules and writing format to kafkascephesi@atam.gov.tr until August 15, 2014. The papers the full texts of which have been sent will be involved in the symposium program after being examined by Organizing Committee in terms of conformity with abstract and scientific terms. Final program of the Symposium will be announced on September 12, 2014.

Publication of the Symposium Book of Papers

The papers presented to the symposium will be requested to be sent to kafkascephesi@atam.gov.tr until October 31, 2014 at the latest, after revised in terms of question-answer sessions and discussions. The papers that are not submitted until the given deadline will not be included in the Symposium Book of Papers.

F U L L T E X T W R I T IN G F O R M A T F O R P A P E R S

1. The heading of the study must be written in bold, using capital letters; the text-alignment should be central and the name of the author should be placed just below, to the right. The academic title, institute and e-mail should be given in an unnumbered footnote at the bottom of the page.

2. Following the heading and name, the Turkish and English summaries/abstracts should be written in size 10pt, each consisting of 300 words. The English summary should also include the English-language heading.

3. The typeface should be Times New Roman, in size 12pt. Tables, footnote and references should be relayed in size 10pt.

4. The study should be written in M. Word program, blocked according to an A4 paper size.

Margins should consist of 2,5cm while the header and footer should be 1,25cm.

5. There must be spacing between paragraphs. The indent: 0 cm, 6pt space-before: 6pt space- after, using single line spacing.

6. Concerning references, the surname of the author, date of publication and page number should be given in this order in brackets as in the following example: (Çaycı, 2002:520). If referenced in a footnote, however, it should be expressed in a sequence following the name and surname of the author, the book title (in bold, articles expressed in quotation marks and italic), the publishing house, place of publication and page number. The sources used should be presented as mentioned in the footnote, in alphabetical order according to surname at the end of the article.

7. Tables and graphics need to be individually numbered, giving their source directly beneath the table or graphic in size 10pt.

8. Original documents, pictures (photos, images, etc.), maps which are not directly relevant to the study should not be presented within the article body but should be numbered and attached at the end of it. High-resolution images should be saved on a CD and submitted separately.

9. The paper is to be from 10 up to a maximum of 20 pages
