Doğu’nun büyüsünü keşfetmek için hep seyahat eden ve Doğu’yu resmeden bu ressam lar arasında bir de “Paintres du Bosporus” diye tanımlanan, “Bo ğaziçi Ressamları” vardır. Kont Amadeo Preziosi, bir Boğaziçi res samıdır, ama onu diğerlerinden ayı ran özellik nedir? “İstanbul aşığı bir ressam, Kont Amadeo Preziosi” kitabı
nın yazarı Osman Öndeş’e göre cevap açıktır. “Ama deo Preziosi’nin eserleri, ömrünün 40 yılını geçirdiği İstanbul’u resmeder. O Türklerin ressamıdır.” Prezi osi’nin resimlerindeki ana tema, İstanbul’da yaşayan tüccarlar, seyyar satıcılar, askerler, dervişler ve kadın lardır. Tablolarında İstanbul’un gündelik yaşamı görü lür. Preziosi, “İstanbul’dan hemen hiç kopmadan, Ey lül 1882’ye kadar, Batı’nın tanımladığı ‘Dünya kentleri nin kraliçesi’ İstanbul ile yaşamını bütünleştirmiştir.” Osman Öndeş kitabını, Amadeo Preziosi’nin yaşam öyküsünü “bıkmadan usanmadan, oradan oraya koşa rak, bir sayfayı daha açarak, bir belgeye daha ulaşa rak, nice öyküleri belgelerden derleyerek” oluşturmuş. Böylelikle okuyucu, “yaşamın olağan akışı içinden çe kilerek alınmış nice ayrıntıları da gözlemleyebiliyor”. “İstanbul aşığı bir ressam, Kont Amadeo Preziosi” kita bı ayrıca ressamın birbirinden değerli tablolarının he men hemen hepsini barındırıyor. Tarihçi Haluk Şah- suvaroğlu’nun tanım ıyla “İstanbul sem asının ve ışığının bütün sırlarını, tuvallerinde dile getiren res sam” Amadeo Preziosi’nin dönemine tanıklık eden resimleri, “Türkiye’nin yabancılar üzerindeki etkisini” yansıtıyor.

For Osman Onde§, author o f ‘An Artist In Love with Istanbul. Count Amadeo Preziosi’ the answer is obvious. ‘The works o f Amadeo Preziosi depict Istan bul where he spent 40 years o f his life. He was the painter o f the Turkish people. ’ The main subjects o f Am adeo P reziosi’s p a in tin g s are the merchants, street sellers, soldiers, dervishes a n d women o f the city, a n d in his paintings daily life in Istanbul is vividly represented. Preziosi lived almost continually in Istanbul until September 1882, a n d over these fo u r decades Istanbul, Queen o f world cities’ as Westerners liked to call it, became an inherent part o f his life. Osman Onde§ explains that he tracked dow n Am adeo P reziosi’s biography by ‘tirelessly rushing here and there, opening yet another page, getting access to yet another document, and piecing together m a n y stories g a th e re d fr o m d iffe re n t sources. ’ The reader ‘can therefore fin d many details about his daily life. ’ This biography also includes reproductions o f alm ost all o f the p a in tin g s by Preziosi, who has been described by the historian Haluk jahsuvaroglu as ‘a painter who voiced all the secrets o f the skies and light o f Istanbul’. At the same time his work reflects the impression which Turkey made on foreigners during the 19th century.
