Theexhibition Rhode Island Needlework 1730-1830 will be on view in the American Wing from July 19 to September 23,1984. The exhibition was made possible, in part, by the National Endowment for the Humanities. The installation at the Metropolitan was the gift of an anonymous donor.

The Epic of Gilgamesh
A dramatic presentation from the Epic of
Gilgamesh featuring masked actors, music, and images of work from the Ancient Near Eastern Collections. The presentation will be preceded by explanatory remarks giving the background of the epic and its continued influence in western culture The epic recounts the legendary exploits of the semi-divine hero, Gilgamesh, who sought, found, and then lost the secret of eternal life.
