Greeting from the New Editor in Chief

On behalf of the editorial board, we would like to greet all of you; authors, peer reviewers, colleagues and readers while presenting the new issue of the Journal. The studies for the second issue of 2017 started with the new Editor in chief and associate editors. There have been many colleagues who supported the Journal with their collaborative efforts up to this point. First of all, we would like to offer thanks to the contributors.

In this context, I would like to pay my special gratitude to Prof. Dr. Hasan Hüseyin Aksoy, who had completed a three-year-period of editorship with his devoted work. Also, I would like to give thanks to the former associate editor, Assoc. Prof .Dr. Ayfer Alper, and the editorial board members Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özlem Çakır, Assoc. Furthermore, I would like to express my gratitude to the current members of editorial board; Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlhan Yalçın, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hatice Bakkaloğlu, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şakir Çınkır, Asst. On the other hand, I would like to thank to the new associate editors, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ömay Çokluk Bökeoğlu and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tuğba Öztürk, the member of editorial board Assoc. Bilge Nur Doğan Güldenoğlu who have accepted to be a part of the editorial board. I would like to state particularly that the new members of editorial board have put all their efforts in publishing the new issue besides trying to learn the system of the Journal. Not knowing the system of the Journal and having a little time for publishing the new issue did not prevent us from completing our mission.

Needless to say, peer reviewers play a significant role in the process of publishing. In this context, I would like to thank to all of the peer reviewers for their support.

Moreover, I would like express my gratitude to Prof. Dr. Doğan Atılgan, Coordinator of Information Services and Publishing House and to Tuna Can, the Director of Library and Documentation Department, and finally to E. Erdal Aydın, IT responsible for their ongoing support and contribution.

XIII Before all else, I would like to thank in advance to everyone, the administrative staff and the personnel of Publishing House of Ankara University and in particular to S. Hakan Büyükçaylı, the Director of Publishing House.

The Journal was decided to be founded in 1964 and the first issue was published in 1968 as the “Journal of Faculty of Education”. In 1982, the second issue was published as the “Journal of Educational Sciences”. Except for the first years, the Journal, which has generally been published twice a year, has widely contained articles on topics such as educational administration, economy and planning, educational law, measurement and evaluation (educational statistics and research), public education, curriculum development in education, educational technology, special education, the historical and social foundations of education, fine arts education and also the first articles on teacher education in Turkey. With all of this content, as a Journal with a 50-year scientific background and experience, it is the most longstanding Journal among other journals in educational sciences. Considering the difficulty of technical conditions for publishing in the first years of the Journal it is quite clear that the Journal has been carrying out a great task from those years until today.

I would like to point out some important issues on which the editorial board will primarily focus:

 The articles to be published in the journal are significantly selected from original research articles

 The main focus of the Journal is on the articles which contribute to the literature with emerging topics

 The manuscripts must have robust methodological backgrounds

 The manuscripts are reviewed through elaborate peer-review process and also editorial board review process

 Before the manuscripts are to be published, they will be subject to both English and Turkish language edits

 The similarity index of the articles will ideally be less than 15 Percent.  There will be a balance between the affiliations of the authors from the

A.U. Faculty of Educational Sciences and out of the A.U. Faculty of Educational Sciences.

 The citations to the Journal will closely be monitored and it is aimed to raise the impact factor of the Journal.

 Endeavours to get the Journal published on time will increasingly continue.  More than two issues of the Journal will be published in a year.

 It is aimed to make strong connections between the stakeholders of the Journal and both international and national scientific communities through the processes of reviewing, authors of the articles in the Journal from different affiliations than the A.U. Faculty of Educational Sciences, consultancy and indexing.

 It is aimed to include the Journal mainly in international indices and new indices.

In the present issue of the Journal, there are 10 articles one of which is a review article and nine of which are research articles. One of the quantitative research articles concerns about developing a scale in the field of Education Administration, one of them concerns about creativity in early childhood, one concerns about learning approaches and learning strategies in curriculum development. There are five qualitative research articles one of which concerns about the issues of being teacher candidates in Turkish cities which are different than those teachers’ future appointment locations, one concerns with contemporary art education, one teaching foreign languages, one concerns measurement and evaluation and one concerns curriculum development. An article dealing with adult education adopts both quantitative and qualitative research methods. Finally, there is a review article. Eight of the articles are in Turkish language with extended English abstracts; two of the articles are in English with Turkish extended abstracts.

Most of the authors are our colleagues who are affiliated by the universities which are different than A.U. Faculty of Educational Sciences. This proves that our Journal serves not only to its institutions but also to the international and national communities.

I would like to congratulate the authors of the Journal for their contributions to the scientific fields and share my wishes of the sustainability of these precious contributions. I also would like to say thank you to our invisible hero readers and wish you all a pleasant reading.

Finally, I would like to remark that the editor in chief will reflect his experience in the following commitments into the Journal: a committee membership working on the forming the first TUBITAK ULAKBIM Social Sciences Database on the Journals of Educational Sciences (2002-2008) and in the scope of this commitment, a member of the team who first arranged a meeting on Periodicals of Social Sciences in Turkey along with the team membership working on the editing of a book in regard to the meeting as well as commitment of improving academic Journals of Ankara University (2012-2016).
