Capillary hemangioma of the middle ear

Abstract
A 56-year-old female patient presented with pulsatile tinnitus of the left ear for 4 months. Physical examination revealed a small bright red mass behind the inferior portion of the intact left tympanic membrane (Fig 1). Audiometric examination showed a pure tone average at 0.5, 1.0,2.0, and 4.0 KHz of 27 dB hearing level in the right and left ears, and the tympanograra was type A bilaterally. High resolution computed tomography (CT) of the temporal bone showed a tumor limited to the middle ear without bony erosion of the floor of the hypotympanum in the affected ear. A provisional diagnosis of glomus tympanicus tumor was made.
