ECOSYSTEM SERVICES POTENTIAL ABSTRACT
livelihoods of the people in the region. However, climate change and recent anthropogenic pressures have led to a significant reduction of the existing wetlands, causing the disruption of ecosystem services provided by wetlands. The aim of this study was to determine the wetlands during the last 30 years by using Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System methods and to discuss the effects changes in wetlands on ecosystem services. In this context, Landsat Satellite data of 1989, 2010 and 2018 years were utilized and changes in the wetlands were determined by using ArcGIS 10.2.1 software. The September 2010 and 2,209 ha in September 2018 due to reduced rainfall and the drainage channel dug to discharge the water. The loss of wetlands was reported causing in failure of ecosystem functions and associated ecosystem services, such as water storage and flood control, retention and removal of nutrients, and conservation of biodiversity. The findings revealed that wetlands which have an important function in hydrology, biota, nutrient cycle, carbon storage and livelihood of the people in the region are under severe threat of degradation. The results of this study are important a) to determine the causes of degradation projects to adopt a holistic approach and create awareness regarding the multiple and interrelated ecosystem services provided by wetlands.
