Antik dönemin coğrafyacılarından Strabon, girinti çıkıntılarıyla bir geyik boynuzuna benzediğini söy ler Haliç’in.

Strabo, the ancient geographer who was born around 63 BC and died in 21 AD, described the Golden Horn as resembling a stag’s horn. For this reason the inlet was originally known as Keras, later becoming known as H riso ke ra s, o r the G o lden H orn . T h e A rab s and Ottomans, on the other hand, referred to it as Halic-i Konstantiniyye, or the Inlet o f Constantinople. The Golden Horn is an incomparable natural harbour, and therefore over the ages has been a hub of sea and land trade routes from north to south and east to west. This inlet and the Marmara Sea form the boundaries of the peninsula on which historic Istanbul stands, and some of the oldest districts and suburbs of the city line the shores

Ancak, müzedeki sergileme alanlarının gi derek müze koleksiyonuna yetmemesi nedeniyle, 1996’de Rahmi M. The anchor factory, or lengerhane, was constructed during the reign of Sultan Ahmed III (1703-1730) on the foundations o f a 12th century Byzantine structure. The imposing building with its mas sive walls and vaulted roof is at first sight reminiscent rather of a Byzantine church or Ottoman mosque than a factory. It is classified as a second grade historic monu ment by the Board of Monuments,
The museum collection quickly began to outgrow this building, how ever, and in 1996 the Rahmi M. K o f Museum and Culture Foundation purchased Haskoy Shipyard from the Maritime Lines. The shipyard, which is

also a second grade historic building, was established in 18 6 1 for carrying out repairs to Istanbul’s ferryboats. Located on the shores of the Golden Horn, this building has been restored, and opened as part of the museum in July this year. The museum complex seeks to both edu cate and entertain its visitors, who include many school- children and students, in line with modern, interactive concepts of museology. The museum has been designed with special lifts so that the disabled can enjoy their visit as much everyone else. In the section How It Works, by pressing a button visitors can see how a radiator pro duces heat, how a wheel turns, or how a dishwasher works.
In the vehicle section the exhibits are not restricted to veteran cars. There is a car which runs on both water and land, the Rolls-Royce which belonged to the late Barış Manço, an Anadol, the first mass produced a Turkish car, and a 1918 Ford T, the first-ever mass pro-ayı içinde hizmete açıldı.
