tol-by Nuri İyem Our leading poster designer and painter Yurdaer Altıntaş is switching into new fields and ideas along with his poster works.
For a long time we have enjoyed watching his theather posters at several places in our city. I think it is this theather poster that lead him into research and interest in our old «spectator arts» which is saying for older «teather» in Turkey. From a different angle he studied Nasreddin Hoca and Karagöz, who have emerged from ordinary people and are watched and read still with great interest in our times. With these studies he came up with new ideas which are to be praised.
What happy coincidences and thoughts have been a source for him on this goal? Above, we have touched those points but different views are also possible. I must also add that Mr. Yurdaer Altıntaş have directed himself towards the «National Arts Concept» as initiated by several artists.
How and where «Karagöz» came to our country, and later became the leading character in «shadow theater» with purely showing our habits and ways of life is a different subject. But it is a fact that Karagöz has been the leading character of -Spectator Arts» in our social life.
However Nasreddin Hoca, as in the past, is being read and told from generation to generation with the same reason. Therefore, the insistance of Mr. Yurdaer Altıntaş on «Karagöz» and presenting the leading characters of shadow theather like Karagöz, Hacivat, Beberuhi. Tuzsuz Bekir, Zenne, Çelebi in the form of painting could mean; is he following the same reason? No, he does not have any such inten tions right now. Actually he is directed into his concept of art. By combining several spectacular, attractive and inspiring colors he is also presenting us his inner thoughts. He has a motion that through the help of «shadow theather» rather then the graphic arts he can bring out to light his inner concept of colors. I think his motion is very be coming. Because, he has been producing interesting and magnificient art one after another.
These new arts of Mr. Yurdaer Altıntaş is a new concept brought up by his working knowledge of painting. We also add his romantic and sincere colors. His figures are «Karagöz» figures. That is to say, they resemble very much to the original images. The artists not only kept his loyalty to the original but also kept his concept and has been successful. According to me this attitude is over illustration and has more meaning.
This is another example in our society of an artist who is out for accomplishment by his hard work. When, one meets such an artist, we can insist we are still here. Wishing him continious success I congrugulate him.
