Wirt Artna” is back
«
• MTV’s locally produced programme, “Wirt Artna” . which attracted such 4 large and enthusiastic audience in its first two series, is back again. The first edition will be shown on MTV today at 8.20 p.m.
“ Wirt Artna” first came on to our screens on January 19, 1970. The programme was a brainchild of MTV’s Head of Programmes, Mannle Splteri, who gathered round him a group of keen writers and re searchers on the characteris tics, attitudes, crafts and workmanship which are in. any way tied up with thé story of the Maltese Islands.
In this, the third series, one meets up once more with the group responsible for this programme. The result of much hard work during the summer months, work which rolled into operation within a few days of the last series coming to an end, this win ter’s “Wirt Artna” is bound to draw and attract a keen viewership.

Gathering” are completely bound up with the hot sea son, and it was under our hot
summer months, and with the aid of farmers and the programme’s many friends that the new series got under way.
Four subjects are dealt with in today’s edition.
Amadeo Preziosi, a painter whose name has spread well beyond our shores is written about by Osman Ondes. The writer was born in Istanbul, Turkey and graduated through that country’s naval college. He has written a number of works which have been printed in newspapers: a novel, and upwards of 50 short stories. In 1968 Osman was appointed on to the Board responsible for the publication o f official Turk ish History. At present, he is working on a book about the Great Siege using only Turk ish documents. He expects to publish this in English early next year. It was thought that it would be interesting to have Osman Ondes’ opinions on Amadeo Preziosi, who spent his life in Osman’s country — Turkey.
“Courting and Marriage in the Past” is the name of John Bezzina’s contribution in this edition of “ Wirt Art na” — a contribution which has been split into a number of arts each covering this subject.
And the architect, Michael Ellul, gives his story on “Malta in the Past” . In the first part of this series, he deals with the city of Val letta.
“Harvesting” takes us to the vicinity of Mgarr where we are shown the processess by which wheat used to be gathered until only a short while ago.
The programme is once more presented by Charles Coleiro: the direction and production are in the hands of Maurice Tanti Burlo’ and Censu Arrigo Programme co-ordination is by Tony Parnis and Charles Coleiro.
