Diante dos resultados, é possível concluir que:
1. A maioria dos casos de APs e de CACs exibiu uma forte expressão das MMPs-2 e -9 no parênquima tumoral. Entretanto, apenas a MMP-9 demonstrou uma diferença significativa de expressão entre os dois tumores, apresentando o CAC uma marcação mais intensa para esta gelatinase. Estes dados sugerem que apesar destas gelatinases estarem participando do processo de remodelação tecidual em ambos os tumores, apenas a gelatinase B parece estar envolvida no processo de invasividade e ao comportamento mais agressivo dos CACs.
2. Foi evidenciada uma forte expressão das MMPs-7 e -26 em APs e CACs, embora não tenha sido observada uma diferença significativa na expressão das mesmas no parênquima tumoral destes tumores, sugerindo a participação destas matrilisinas no processo de remodelação tecidual dos dois tumores. Além disso, estas proteases poderiam estar influenciando indiretamente o comportamento do CAC devido a sua capacidade de ativar a MMP-9, fortemente expressa nestes tumores.
3. A maioria dos APs e CACs exibiu uma forte expressão dos TIMPs -1 e -2 no parênquima tumoral, não havendo diferença significativa na expressão destes entre os tumores estudados de modo a justificar o padrão de agressividade dos CACs à expressão destes dois marcadores.
4. Os resultados não demostraram uma associação significativa na expressão das MMPs e TIMPs estudados e os tipos/padrões histológicos respectivamente, dos APs e CACs, de modo a correlacionar positivamente a expressão destes marcadores e estas variáveis a patogênese destes tumores ou ao comportamento mais agressivo dos CACs.
