HISTORY
•
Hipocrates cited the clitoris as the site of female sexualarousal, the first physician historically recorded to have made that assessment.
•
Depictions of sexual behavior have existed from the time of prehistoric cave drawings through Leonardo da Vinci’sanatomical illustrations of intercourse to current pornographic sites on the Internet.
• Sexuality is determined by anatomy, phsiology, the culture in
which a person lives, relationships with others and developmental experiences throughout the life cycle.
• It includes the perception of being male or female and private thoughts and fantasies as well as behovior.
• To the avarage normal person, sexueal attraction to another
person and the passion and love that follow are deeply associated with feeelings of intimate happiness.

Normal sexual behavior brings pleasure to oneself and one’s partner, involves stimulation of the primary sex organsincluding coitus and often leads to climax.
•
Recreational, as opposed to relational sex, including casual, premarital and extramarital activity and masturbation isnormal in some contexts.
•
Societal understanding of what defines normal sexualbehavior is inconstant and varies from era to era, reflecting the cultural mores of the time.
•
The sequential/linear response model first postulated by Masters and Johnson.•
This model is mainly on male sexual response but it is an insufficient model of the experience of many women.NORMAL SEXUALITY
ANATOMICAL AND PHYSIOLOGICAL BASES
• Male Anatomy:
• The external genitalia include; the penis, scrotum, testes, epididymes, and parts of the vas deference
• Internal componenets include the vas deferns, ejeculatory ducts, and prostate gland
• Concern over the size of the penis is practically universal among men.
• Masters and Johnson report a range of 7 to 11 cm in the flaccid state and 14 to 18 cm in the erect state.
• Circumcision, a procedure in which the prepuce is surgically removed, has been practiced for centuries as a religious rite by Jews and Moslems.
