THIRD GENERATION UNIVERSITIES ABSTRACT
Universities, which are considered to be the last stop of the education journey, have undergone many changes and developments through the years and have tried to meet the changing expectations of society by using new technologies and methods.
Universities, the duty of which was only to teach the knowledge at the beginning, started to produce the knowledge they taught through their researches as time went by. Today, they have not only embraced the duty of putting the information they produce into practice and teaching it but have also attained an international character to address a larger students and academics. They have also acquired a cooperative and competitive structure. In this paper, the causes which prepared the transformation of the universities into third-generation universities, which is the trend of today, are taken into consideration. These causes are also believed to be Furthermore, the structural, social, financial, and functional qualifications of the third-generation universities are reviewed in the study.
