YEAR 5 & 6 CAMP
The camp for our year 5&6 students will occur in week 10. The children and staff are excited and are making preparations for this special event.
MEET THE TEACHER MEETINGS will be next week. We hope that parents join the meeting on Webex. This meeting assists teachers in planning for the needs of your child. Please ensure when the invitation is distributed that you organise an interview time to have a conversation with your child’s teacher.
NATIONAL ANTHEM – WE ARE ONE AND FREE
Ms Lang’s year 3&4 class have written letters to explain why we must change the national anthem we play at assembly. From 1 January, the second line of Advance Australia Fair will say: “For we are one and free.” This replaces the existing line: “For we are young and free.” This change is
recognising Indigenous history and fosters a ‘spirit of unity’. Please read some of their letters in this newsletter.

ULUSAL MARŞ – TEKİZ VE ÖZGÜRÜZ (WE ARE ONE AND FREE).
Ms Lang’in bu öğretmenliğini yaptığı 3. ve 4. Sınıf öğrencileri bayrak töreninde çaldığımız ulusal marşımızı neden değiştirmemiz gerektiğini ifade eden bir mektup yazdılar.1 Ocak tarihinden itibaren artık “Advance Australia Fair” - Adilce İlerle Avustralya ‘nın ikinci mısrasında: “For we are one and free.” - Tek ve özgür olduğumuz için, diyeceğiz. Bu daha önceki “For we are young and free.” – Genç ve özgür olduğumuz için, mısrasıyla yer değiştirmiş olacaktır. Bu değişiklik, yerli halkı tanıdığını belirtmekte ve ‘birlik ruhunu’
beslemektedir. Lütfen, bu bültende yer alan bazı öğrenci mektuplarını okuyunuz.

CLASS PRESENTATION 3/4B Room 6
Our class have watched a B.T.N. video about the National Anthem. The Prime Minister has changed the line “for we are young and free” to “for we are one and free” because our country is not young – the indigenous people have lived on this earth for thousands and thousands of years - and “one” includes everyone. When we saw the change in assembly, we were so proud. We are so proud because they have included everyone. Thank you for reading.
from Ria, Amira and Ahmad
Dear Ms Leach, the National Anthem is not the right anthem because the Prime Minister decided to change “for we are young and free” to “we are one and free” to include everyone in the world. So can you change the lyrics to “we are one and free”
because the lyrics that you put is the old lyrics.
Thank you from Ayub
Dear Ms Leach, our class wants you to change the National Anthem because where it says “we are young and free”, the Aboriginals have been in Australia for thousands of years and they are old. So the Prime Minister of Australia changed the “young” to
“one and free” and “one” means everyone. So please change the National Anthem because I want to give respect to the Aborigines.

With higher UV levels from September onwards it is important to use a combination of sun-protection measures to minimise the risk of skin and eye damage and skin cancer.
Between 1 SEPTEMBER TO 30 APRIL when outdoors at MHPS, it is COMPULSORY that staff and students wear appropriate clothing that covers as much skin as possible and a legionnaire cap to protect the head, face, neck and ears. Staff and students should also apply SPF 30+ broad spectrum sunscreen, use shade whenever possible
and if practical, sunglasses should also be worn.
Students without appropriate hats must sit in the shade in the main courtyard during their breaks, NO HAT!
NO PLAY! NO SUN!
MHPS appreciates your support in our efforts to encourage your child about the importance of being SunSmart.
MHPS legionnaire caps can be purchased at the school office for $6.00 only by EFTPOS, no cash.
