-It is sensible to try to replenish carbohydrate supplies as soon as possible after a marathon to aid the speed of recovery.

-"You should start taking on fluids as soon as possible from the first drink station. Once you start to feel thirsty it is too late."

-A top priority for anybody planning to run a marathon is to stock up on carbohydrates. The main source of energy during a race comes from burning up the body's store of glycogen which comes from carbohydrates such as pasta, bread and potatoes

-Symptoms include sweating, shaking, shortness of breath, nausea, dizziness, fear of dying or losing control and hot flushes. Some symptoms, such as chest pain, can mimic those of a heart attack, increasing the sense of anxiety.

-Panic disorders usually first occur in late adolescence or early adulthood. Women are thought to be twice as likely to suffer from them as men.

-People who suffer from anxiety disorders may also have other mental illnesses, such as depression. 7-The National Asthma Campaign is one of many bodies sponsoring research into the causes of asthma, and scientists hope to produce a vaccine for the disease in the near future.

-Attacks can be only occasional or frequent. The symptoms of asthma are a major cause of time lost from school and work and sleep disturbances.

-However, Professor Duncan Geddes of the National Asthma Campaign says there are plenty of reasons why prevalence of the asthma is increasing.

"10-There are simple ones - women who smoke during pregnancy are much more likely to have asthmatic children.

-"Asthma is also something to do with the way we're living in modern housing - little ventilation, damp housing, more carpets and more dust make asthma more common." Exposure to illness in childhood could also play a role, he says.

-But he added: "General anaesthesia in the UK is very safe. However, without the proper facilities, when things go wrong, they go wrong very quickly." 13-Most did not know of the link between drug-resistant bugs and antibiotic use.

-It set up a working group in May to examine the issue and November's restrictions were placed on the basis of the group's recommendations.

-Sufferers tend to be older than anorexics, take a longer time to recover and are more likely to commit suicide. 16-Excessive vomiting can cause tooth decay, bad breath, mouth ulcers, sore throats and stomach disorders and may have serious long-term health implications.

-Anorexia nervosa is a form of intentional self-starvation. What may begin as a normal diet is carried to extremes, with many reducing their intake to an absolute minimum. It is also characterised by obsessive behaviour. The majority of anorexics deny they have a problem.

-The emphasis on super-thin models has been blamed for the increase in eating disorders.

-Africa is also home to 70% of the adults and 80% of the children living with HIV in the world - just over 25 million in total.

-Aids continues to have a far greater impact on Africa than any other continent.

-Already there are 14 million Aids orphans in Africa. As parents continue to die, the responsibility of raising the next generation will increasingly fall on the shoulders of a grandparent.

-Outside the school gates, an elderly man waits for his grandson. As he stands there, he seems burdened with grief. Over the past four years, David Massau, a retired security guard, has lost five of his children to Aids.

-Here Brazil, which has one of the biggest wealth gaps in the world between rich and poor, still has a long way to go. 24-He added that fighting Aids also means fighting poverty and social exclusion.

-In many Sao Paulo schools, teenagers practice putting condoms onto a clay model, as well as discussing the importance of honesty in relationships as part of their sex education.

-Turck drivers travel thousands of miles each day from Port Djibouti to Ethiopia, carrying much-needed grain to feed those in areas where drought has become a persistent nightmare.
