Summary: The objective of this trial was to determine the efficacy of proslaglandin injections on different days of diestrous period lo synchronize oestrus activity of ewes during the breeding season.Vaginal sponges containing

30

mg fluorogestene acetate(FGA) were inserted inlo the vagina of the ewes for

days.Triaprost tromethamine

(0.294

mg, i.m.), an analogue of PGF2a,was injected to all ewes one day before the withdrawal of sponges in three groups.Oestrus of each ewe was followed using teaser rams every 6 hours and mean ovulatlon time was deıermined based on the completion of estrus.Animals were divided into three groups according the time of end of estrus. mg, l.m.)was injected on day 3 (Group I),6 (Group ii) or

(Group iii) after ovulation.AIso,PMSG at the dosage of

LU was injected to all ewes at the moment of prostaglandin injection.PGF2",-estrusand PGF2o-0vulationintervals were significantly (P<O.OS)shorter in the groupithan in the group iii. Plasma progesterone concenlrations at the time of PGF2",injection was stalislically(p<O.OS) lower in the groupithan in the group ii.On the other hand, estrus response and pregnancy rates were not statistically different (p>O.OS) among the groups.In conclusion,injection of PGF2aon day 3 after ovutation was found to be lhe most effective protocol to synchronize estrus activityin ewes.
