Feed Seasonal, Protect Your Health and Nature!

Although it is possible to find all kinds of vegetables and fruits in all four seasons thanks to the improvement of food imports, greenhouse production and storage conditions, experts agree that seasonal and fresh nutrition is better for both nature and human health.

Why should we eat seasonally?

1. More nutritive: It is difficult to find the taste and quality of field production in products grown in greenhouses by providing unnatural en- vironment and conditions. Micronutrients such as vitamins, antioxidants, phytochemicals and min- erals are richer when the products are in season and fresh; It contains the nutritional value that our body needs in that season.

2. Better for nature: Fruits and vegetables planted in the season grow in harmony with natural cycles, not against nature. In particular, yield-ori- ented agricultural inputs used in industrial produc- tion cause environmental damage and losses. In local varieties, which are more resistant if grown in season, usually used less or no toxic chemicals such as pesticides and reduce the carbon footprint with a shorter supply chain.

3. More economical: Since seasonal fruit and vegetable production can be achieved with less input, it is less costly. Logistics costs and loss- es such as transportation and storage during the transportation of products from farm to fork are reflected per unit product. Therefore, instead of standardized production and long supply chains;

choosing diversity-oriented, small-scale and local production models provides a more economical shopping opportunity.

Seasonal nutrition schedule for December:

Let’s get to know the pumpkin, one of the winter fruits Pumpkin is a winter squash variety that belongs to the cucurbit family, its homeland is the Americas, and is still grown in China, India, Rus- sia and the USA. In our country, Sakarya, Düzce, Afyonkarahisar and Samsun are recorded as the provinces where the most pumpkin is grown.

Pumpkin, which protects our body against upper respiratory tract infections by clearing free radicals in the immune system, is one of the foods that should definitely be in our diet. It also plays a major role in the proper functioning of our digestive system by preventing intestinal laziness.
