Dr. Berna Serener
Berna Serener was born in 1967 in Lefke, Cyprus. She finished her primary school education in Şehit Tuncer İlkokulu. For her secondary school education she attended Türk Maarif Koleji from 1979 to 1985.
After graduating from high school, she received a scholarship from Amideast to attend New York University in the U.S. In 1989 she graduated from college double majoring in finance and international business. During her college years, she worked for New York University’s Information Center. During 1989-1990 she worked as a management consultant for Polly Peck in Nicosia, Cyprus. In 1991, she received another scholarship to go to Boston College to do her Master of Business Administration degree (MBA) in finance.
Starting 1993, she has taught finance classes for two years in Business Department in Eastern Mediterranean University. Afterwards, she went to Marmara University in İstanbul to attend Ph.D. classes. As a Ph.D. student, she lectured finance classes in International American University in Cyprus. After completing her Ph.D. in finance and accounting, she worked at different universities in Cyprus.
From 1998-2002 She worked as a part-time lecturer in the Department of Industrial Engineering in Eastern Mediterranean University in Cyprus. During 2000-2004 she has taught banking and finance classes in Cyprus International University.
In 2004 she received a post graduate certificate in education (Pgce) from University of Surrey Roehampton in the U.K. She was trained in Gumley House Convent School and Salesian College during her stay in London. She has worked as a lecturer in Banking and Finance Department, in Near East University from 2005-2015. She has become the acting head of department to the Human Resource Management Department since September, 2015.
