Project overview:

Turgen All-Season Mountain Resort

Turgen gorge in Kazakhstan is a remarkable natural treasure offering un ique conditions for th e de velopmen t of a large world-class all-season mountain resort.

The gorge is located in th e south of th e country, 70 k m from Almaty, which is the largest city in Kazakhstan a n d is c o m m o n l y k n o w n as its ‘mountain capital’.

In addition to a picturesque landscape a n d abundance of water sources, th e gorge is suitable for the construction of up to 100 k m of high-mountain ski slopes and a hotel resort w i t h sports a n d e n te rta in m e n t facilities.

Today, w i t h its trails, waterfalls, th e rma l springs a nd varied flora, th e u n iqu e natural en viro n m ent of Turgen gorge is attracting ecotourists both from Kazakhstan and from further afield.

One of the most important tourism projects for Kazakhstan is the d e ve lopment of an all-season m o u n t a i n resort in Turgen gorge near Almaty in the south of the country.

Kazakhstan is enjoying strong economic g r o w t h and has an attractive investment climate. Moreover, th e Government

of Kazakhstan has identified to u rism a priority sector a n d identified the country’s top 10 tourist destinations, the largest of which the city of Almaty and the surrounding region.

Today Turgen is an attraction for ecotourists f r o m Kazakhstan a n d n e igh b o rin g countries because of its distinctive natural e n viro n m e n t a n d proximity to th e city.

The climate a n d landscape of th e area m a ke Turgen an attractive location for an all-season resort offering an extended value

proposition for win te r sports enthusiasts a n d ecotourists, w i t h a total potential of 1.1–1.3 million visitors per year.

The plans for th e resort include commercial infrastructure w i t h a capacity of u p to 16,000 beds in various categories of hotels a n d chalets, a n d construction of up to 100 k m of ski runs.

The preliminary total cost of th e project is USD ~1 billion.

Public investment is p la n ned to provide utility and transport infrastructure, as well as possible co-financing of ski

infrastructure.
